About Eric B. & Rakim - Paid In Full: The Platinum Edition
Hip-hop has always been a puzzle, and the two-CD "platinum edition" of 1987's classic Paid in Full reestablishes one of the genre's key pieces in proper context by combining the original 10-song tour de force with a companion collection of important remixes. From Eric B.'s Technics terrorism and sampling symphonies to Rakim's soulful, street-smart flow, Paid in Full is landmark science, a Ph.D. effort building on the early theories of New York City legends like the Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash. By featuring 10 remixes--including Coldcut's "Seven Minutes of Madness" treatment of the title track and the Wild Bunch's "Move the Crowd"--The Platinum Edition also highlights the duo's influence on DJ and club culture beyond the B-boy set. --Mark Woodlief Amazon.com

| | Bow Down to the Greatest HipHop Album of alltime......... | |
This is one and only truly classic album by Eric B and Rakim that stands the test of time. Impeccable rhyming at its finest. Rakim's delivery was just unbelievable back in 86. No one had rapped like that up to that point. The music by Run DMC, LL Cool J and the Beastie Boys was loud and rock influenced. Eric B's deep (Dennis Edwards) baseline on the song Paid in Full was a changing of guard. Ra's slowed down flow was next level. Fav's are the entire album. Nuff Said.
May 9, 2007Back in the days, I was a DJ/MC/Beat Boxer/Popper and I remember it as the most fun time of my life. I was in awe by Rakim's lyrics and couldn't figure out how he had so much creativity to dream up his lyrics, and on top of that, put it into a hardcore yet funky rhyme. I soon boasted Rakim as one of the few, if any, that could hang with Grandmaster Melle Mel during his prime. I shadowed Eric B. because I used to focus on his weak scratching techniques, but soon learned the whole orchestrated composition was his doing. After getting into local Hip-Hop production, I respected his talents by TRYING to "bite his style." It was to no avail. Although I could duplicate the beats and cuts, it definetly didn't have the same soul. Together, Eric B. & Rakim are an "unbeatable duo" and one of the later pioneers of Hip-Hop. This CD is a must have!!! - - WIZDOM (formerly Lenny V.)
August 19, 200030 years from now when most of the early rap fans are old men and women only a few rap artist of the day will be remembered. Dispite all the big money men efforts to promote commercial artist they all will be forgotten. Among those most remembered will be Eric B and Rakim. Commentators will discusss how this group never recieved the attention from the established media that it gave to lesser rappers who were backed by those that wanted artist they could control. It has been nearly 17 years since I first saw Eric B and Rakim in one of their first videos and first thought that the two looked like "hardrocks" that were jokes. How wrong I was and the rap scene. Eric B and Rakim earned the right to wear the stone face of seriousness. "They ain't no joke."
July 3, 2000how many rap/alt songs nowadays STILL sample these tracks? you know it...this was probably the best rap cd of all time...listen to the trash no limit, and the rest of those bozos continuously try to shove down your throat...chuckle, then listen to Paid in Full...like Rakim, I say 'peace'
