Baby boomer nostalgia or a timeless trip into the season? That question practically becomes mute when one tunes in to these classic TV Christmas cartoons that magically maintain their shelf life. There's Burl Ives singing "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas" and the title track to the songs from the animated Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer show, along with that lovable "We're a Couple of Misfits." And with a handful of songs from A Charlie Brown Christmas and A Muppet Family Christmas, this CD is sure to connect with adults who remember first seeing these holiday shows on TV, as well as their kids who are seeing them for the 60th time on video. That said, ya gotta love a record that has the original "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch," as well as Fred Astaire doing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," and Jimmy Durante showboating his way through "Frosty the Snowman." Big fun for old and young. --Martin Keller Amazon.com

Even people my age (I'm only 28), can say that they've grown up with these classic Christmas specials, as they have been rerun on a yearly basis at least well into the 90s, and anyone who has seen them enough knows that both the shows and the songs will grow on you in a big way. All classic stuff, this collection contains such great holiday memories as "Christmas Time Is Here" from A Charlie Brown Christmas, "Holly Jolly Christmas" from Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, and "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" from How The Grinch Stole Christmas. This song is sung by the incomparable Thurl Ravenscroft, who, pretty much up until his death in 2004, remained active in a number of notable ways, including having his voice used for various public announcements heard throughout Disney World, and more importantly, providing the voice of Tony The Tiger in the Frosted Flakes commercials.

If, like me, you raised your family in the 1960s and early 1970s you will love this memory-jogging album from Nick at Nite.
Every holiday season we would hunker down in front of the TV, the kids in their pajamas, drinks and cookies at hand, to religiously watch: How The Grinch Stole Christmas, with the wonderful Boris Karloff giving voice to the title role; Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer and the great Burl Ives adding the title song and Have A Holly Jolly Christmas to a list of Christmas standards; Fred Astaire, Mickey Rooney, and Keenan Wynn lending their magic to the tunes from Santa Claus Is Coming To Town; Da Schnozz - Jimmy Durante - and his unique voice on Frosty Da Snowman; and the marvelous jazzy soundtrack from A Charlie Brown Christmas by The Vince Guaraldi Trio.
The fold-out insert contains reproductions of six letters children wrote to the "stars" of the shows in question, with the one to The Grinch being particularly hilarious. It reads: "Dear Grinch: Why are you so mean? Were you neglected when you were a child? Are you embittered because you didn't get enough love? Have you ever considered getting professional help? If you have, my daddy is a psychologist and I understand has a sliding scale. Love Jocelyn."
Priceless stuff, and only made better by the wonderful cover graphics (and in the fold-out) by Davis Sheldon. An absolute must for your Christmas collection.
