| | I Wish These Guys Would Make A Comeback! | |
This album is Dru Hill's best, these guys need to make a comeback because any R&B album today can't not compare to this album. just to name a couple of my fravorite songs are Real Freak, beauty, You Are Everything. also the biggest guy in the group(I forgot his name) brings the his vocal talent on this album, him and sisqo are the best out of the group.
June 21, 2008I love every track on this album. Every single one. It's an improvement upon their debut release and genre-savior in comparison to the third. I wish they'd come back with more.
March 3, 2008After a successful Dru Hill in 1996 including the hits "Tell Me", "In My Bed" and "Never Make A Promise" Dru Hill shortly became one of the most popular R&B groups on the planet. Sisqo, Jazz, Woody and Nokio (all natives from Baltimore) released this, 2 years later and it became their biggest selling album and eventually went platinum. Their style is much simular to Jodeci mixing both tender slow jamz and explicit sex anthems. Singer Sisqo even sound alot like Cedric "KCI" Hailey, and was initially critizied for ripping off his style. But Dru Hill had little competitions when they started out cause Jodeci were no longer around and few other groups were as straight forwards as them. This album feature their biggest hit, the #3 ranked "How Deep Is Your Love", their classic mega hit that represent R&B better then anything else in the late 90's. It was the soundtrack to Rush Hour and works excellent now aswell. Other then that we can say that their sophmore effort is very much polished by stellar producers like Babyface on the sweet ballad "These Are The Times" Diane Warren on "What Do I Do with the Love" not surprisingly another ballad. Slicker R&B with "This is What We Do" with Method Man and "You Are Everything" later remixed for a video release with Ja Rule. With 17 songs you got the best of both worlds, but plenty of filler aswell. I would actually say that their debut album is slightly better even if this one sold better. However, "Enter the Dru" made them interational stars and later launched Sisqo's solo career that included his 5x Platinum debut album Unleash the Dragon. There's not been much going on around anyone of them lately, but Sisqo will be relesing a new album this year. As for "Enter The Dru" it's a decent purchase that brings you back to the 90's.

After 2 years, the 4 man group from my hometown return with a great album. Sisqo, Nokio, Woody, and Jazz bring you a nice R&B album, with some upbeat tracks, some love songs and some soul balalds, a nice combination to bring a nice (and their best) album (their debut was also good, I don't have any other albums of theirs). Only about 5-10 % of my CD's are R&B (most are just greatest hits albums), but this is one I had to have and one of the finer R&B albums I own. Sisqo really being the only one to go big solo, does the majority of the lead vocals although the others all have their turn. Guests are limited to 2 songs (I wish they had the version with Redman on the one song that was on the "Rush Hour" soundtrack but they left his verse out so oh well). Of the 15 songs, 6 ar eok, 2 are classics, 2 are almost classics and the rest are good songs. a must have album for fans of R&B.
#2 - 9.5 (upbeat song)
#3 - 9.5 (upbeat track -- i'd give the version with Redman a 10)
#4 - 10 (f/ Method Man)
#5 - 8.5
#6 - 7
#7 - 8.5
#8 - 7
#9 - 8 (short interlude but nice)
#10 - 8
#12 - 7
#13 - 6
#14 - 7
#15 - 9
#16 - 10
#17 - 6

...and that's because I don't think that this CD is very good. Lately, I've been reviewing duds and this CD is no exception. The first 10 tracks are pretty boring, minus track number 10, One Good Reason which is OK but nothing spectacular. Another two of those tracks are the intro and the first pointless interlude. Track 11, is another interlude and the song Angel isn't terrible but it's pretty average. Not classic Dru Hill like I'm used to. What Do I Do With The Love is up next and it's another average track. You have NO idea how disappointing this CD is. Finally, with track 14 we get a good song, Beauty. I've heard this one a couple of times and I like it a lot. Moving on...These Are The Times is the next track and it's a keeper. Not classic, but good, nonetheless. Sure did take them a LONG time to start to get things right. The Love We Had (Stays On My Mind) is a great, great song. Probably the best here. Finally, track 17, the final track is called What Are We Gonna Do Now. Is it good? Well, it's better than anything that was offered from track one to ten but it still doesn't stand out all that much.
The best songs here are:
The Love We Had (Stays On My Mind) (This is classic Dru Hill, in my eyes)
Beauty
These Are The Times
What Are We Gonna Do
All in all, I definitely expected more out of them because they are a good R&B group that really brought it with their debut. "April Showers", "All Alone", "So Special" and "5 Steps" are some great, classic R&B tunes. This release has "average" written all over it. Definitely a sophomore slump.
2.5 stars.
