Not everyone can relate to the song "Medication", which in a way is not a bad thing, but it certainly keeps it from getting the credit it deserves. This acoustic version features re-recorded vocals, something Garbage has done on a few of it's B-Sides. This single is a must own for Garbage fans.

"Special #1" suprised me for a number of reasons, primarily the fact that Victor Calderone's techno remix of "Push It" is actually decent - great, even. To me, a good remix should be able to stand on its own as a strong song, and this one does just that. I can easily imagine it being played at a club or rave, and it has a scratchy, raw feel that few techno remixes can claim. But what really sells this disc is the acoustic version of "Medication", a song that I continually skipped past on "Version 2.0" but which stands out beautifully here. Consisting of just Shirley Manson's thin but earnest voice, a guitar, and a piano, the song has a delightfully minimalist feel, and it gives the song a much more emotional feel than the original. And of course, "Special" is a great single no matter how it's mixed, and rounds out an overall great CD single. A must-have for fans.
July 15, 2003Garbage has a knack for keeping their sound signature, but fresh, and with this, their third single from Version 2.0, they have upgraded alt-rock's molding industry. "Special" bites off Pretenders'"Talk Of The Town" with fierce energy and squiggly cyber-pop, making it a must listen. The acoustic version of "Medication" isnt the greatest thing youve heard, but its Shirley's own irresistable sorrow that makes one of Version 2.0's throwaways (theyre arent many)something of a memorable piece. Calderone's remix of "Push It" isnt revolutionary, but it does well with a song in no need of an alteration.
