If you're a Belle (a Belle and Sebastian fan), pass this by. You don't need to be told. If you've never heard this amazing band, whose exquisite retro melodies meet frequently subversive lyrics to tango like nothing you've ever heard before, the best place to start is with their original album. To quote founder Stuart Murdoch, "Do something pretty while you can."
August 3, 2008 | | One of B&S' better albums
This is the 4th B&S album I bought, and it was a fantastic purchase. After snatching up their newer albums (The Life Pursuit and Dear Catastrophe Waitress) I listened to their older stuff and this one really hits the mark. There are a couple of super-strong songs on this one, such as "My Wandering Days Are Over" and "I Don't Love Anyone". I don't think there's a dud on here, although "Electronic Renaissance" starts off with a somewhat-psychedelic intro that doesn't seem to match the bands other efforts.
February 3, 2008 | | best debut album ever (for some silly kids ;)
B&S display their classic wit and talent from the very first line of this debut album.
My favorites include Expectations, We Rule the School, and I Don't Love Anyone.
May 10, 2007I enjoy listening to the entire cd, a must have for any B & S fan.
January 3, 2007 | | If I have to pick my favorite...
Plain and simple...Belle & Sebastian is my favorite band and this is, in my opinion, their best album. It's a lush, giddy, stark, springtime-in-headphones, gift of pure beauty and joy. All of their other albums are great in their own right as well. I would have to say the FYHCYWLAP was my least favorite(if that is possible)until I saw them perform at the Hollywood Bowl this past summer. Oh my goodness... now I can't get the damn thing out of my player! Check them all out!!!
