About Rick Springfield - Karma

Rick Springfield made pretty good pop-rock radio fodder in his early-'80s heyday; "Jessie's Girl," "I've Done Everything for You," and "Love Is Alright Tonight" are hard to argue with now, even if you didn't have much use for them when they were hits. Unfortunately, this former General Hospital star has happened upon enlightenment and feels the need to share it with the world. True feeling seems to lie behind "It's Always Something" (a tribute not to Gilda Radner, but to Springfield's late father), "Act of Faith," and the rest, but the shiny, slightly dated production and soap-ready emoting make Karma less interesting than a thrift-store copy of Working Class Dog. --Rickey Wright Amazon.com

Rick Springfield's music is like a fine wine! As the years progress, his music matures and has so much meaning. I loved his music thirty years ago but this CD blows his previous work out of the water! His song writing skills and passionate voice will touch your heart and make you feel alive! Kudos Rick!!! The writing, music, and singing in this albums are simply superb. It's a different sound that you will be used to if you are a classic Rick Springfield fan, but it will grow on you if you give it a chance. It's almost got a country twang in some songs, but it just as much rock and roll and you expect from Springfield. I highly suggest you add this to your collection. You will NOT be disappointed. I was a huge fan of Rick's music throughout the 80's. One thing I noticed - each album he made was better than the last... the music, the lyrics, the maturity. If you look at the difference between Working Class Dog and Human Touch - and then the difference between that and Rock Of Life, well, it's just a staggering increase in quality. Then he seemed to go really quiet....

Until this came out in 1999. This album blew me away then and I still love it and listen to it now (it's October 2005 as I write this). The only song I think he could have left off is the first spoken track. If I was going to be really picky I could also say Rick could have left off "Ordinary Girl" because it's an "ordinary" song (can you believe this was the track chosen to be released as a single ?????). Other than that every song is fantastic.

My absolute favourite on this is "In Veronica's Head".

If you are a fan of Rick's you'll love this. If you're not a fan - yet - then pick up this album. You'll see..... October 4, 2005

Springfield's 1999 release is an excellent one! With this disc, he explores a more spiritual side of life. Rick's spirituality throbs with passion & joy. The title track has some searing electric lead & pops with great energy, "As the smallest stream runs to a river & every river runs to the sea, so every little bit of love I give to another...comes back to me." "Prayer" has an original melody & driving beat & the delightful chorus, "Now I send the prayer to heaven for the chance to be a better man than the man I see. I send the prayer to heaven, lay your hands on me." My favorite track is "Act of Faith" that starts with an eerie chorus and builds as Springfield explores emotions of adjusting to the loss of a loved one. It is tremendously emotional and powerful, "Love is a healer." The other tracks are also excellent Springfield vehicles like the excellent "The White Room" with its catchy melody and an edge in the lyric, "In her head is the same obsession & all the bottles & pills won't heal her heart; She heard his last confession & every word just tears her apart." "In Veronica's Head" makes me hit the repeat button. "Karma" is an excellent set; one well worth discovering. Enjoy! December 4, 2004

I have to admit when I ordered this cd it was just for nostalgia's sake; but, upon listening to it I really was surprised! It is an awesome cd, and I think it is really one of his best ever! I like 'shock/denial/anger/acceptance' but this album really says "Rick Springfield" to me-true, raw emotion and it is musically arranged well. I love this album, and it is a shame if other fans do not discover this gem. October 30, 2004
