You know, I was never into International Music until I listened to Tarkan's Simarik. It was the best music I had ever heard. I had to know about him. So I learned all the songs and the translations. Then Karma was released.. Oh! Even Better!!! I fell in love with Tarkan. His voice is so beautiful and sensual. I can really feel his emotions. I have all of the imports. They are very hard to find, but I manage. He is my favorite IM star. I would love to see him in concert one day... June 14, 2002

... I love this particular CD because I used to live in Turkey and I knew EVERY song on this album. The lyrics are sentuous and thoughtful and I admire his creativity. I say "GO TARKAN!" Take America and the rest of the world! Many (not all as we can already see) will admire you and love your music, as I do. I and many others are looking forward to the release of your English cross-over album! September 29, 2000

A bit of history, first. Tarkan was born in Germany and moved to Turkey at 16. He attended a Turkish classical music conservatory and proceeded to splash onto the Turkish pop music scene in the early '90s. Because of his German background, you'll always hear some European influence in his music. This is probably what naysayers are referring to when they claim that his music is not a reflection of Turkish music. Pshaw! Every Turkish pop artist out there has his/her own sound and Tarkan is no different in that respect. Where he is different is in his sound. There's a vocal purity that doesn't come around very often in pop music and his technique is flawless. Again, not very common. Some of his best songs are written (co-written?) by Sezen Aksu, who is herself probably the most popular female pop artist in Turkey. She is credited with 2 of the songs on this cd. "Hepsi senin, mi?" (Translation: Is it all yours?), for example. This sexy song is an instant dance hit and believe me, you will dance! Check out his other CDs, although, this one's my favorite. "Olurum Sana" and "Karma" are a very close 2nd and 3rd. His most recent release is in English, titled "Come closer". I recommend starting with his latest Turkish CDs (Aacayipsin, Olurum Sana, Karma, and Dudu) then going back to listen to his very first album, "Yine Sensiz". It's fun to go back and listen to his sound as it was just developing. You can't go wrong no matter which CD you choose!

I find myself singing some of these songs daily. You know, the kind that just pop up and you can't can't get your mind off them. Great listening, makes you want to dance (or something) type music. Tarkan has a sensuous voice, great lyrics and talented band - combination for a winning CD. Glad to see he is becoming known in the US. May 11, 2000
