I have to say that pretty much anything dieselboy puts out is not only worth buying but is also some of the best dnb has to offer, so that being said, this release from him just doesnt seem to match some of his later stuff or even 97 octane. All in all this is a great dnb cd and is worth every penny spent on it, but if youve never heard dieselboy before I wouldnt start with this one. August 4, 2003

I bought this mix back in '99 and I haven't wore it out yet. It shows up through my cycling of my CD's every month or more and it's always a thrill. It's one of his older, more aggressive mixes and, while I find myself more atracted to rolling, lighter D&B nowadays, this one is still essential in my collection. I have agree with another reviewer who said he really liked the transition from track five to six. January 18, 2002

When I first heard about this album, one reviewer told me that the symbolism behind the title was that in the trance-pop infested 90's world of raves, Drum and Bass artists are thrown into some back corner and never given any love or respect. Thus, they are called soldiers. Although a little skeptical of this theory, I couldn't help thinking about it once I heard track one open with "Welcome to the HEV mark four..." as if the DJ you're about to hear is preparing for all out war.

Musically speaking, that's not too far away from the truth. Right from the start Dieselboy pumps up the beats to a furious tempo blended with dark undertones and keeps the tensions high throughout the rest of the album. The tone is always dark but extremely energetic and Higgins' (Dieselboy) mixing skill is top notch! I always enjoy listening to this album and I think Dieselboy's music here is not only representative of modern Jungle style but also of the D&B artist community. This CD is the paragon of Jungle music. August 19, 2001

The intense beat NEVER LET'S UP! It keeps going and going and going....This is the best Drum and Bass you can buy. My favorite part is where that raw bass starts pounding in The Beckoning and Sawn Off. Equally impressive was the wonderful sound effect from Half-Life and Quake 2 in the intro; they really set the right mood, even if it makes the HEV seem more like a mech-suit than an enviroment shield. But that's beside the point. Let's see...another great track is The Bellz. It assaults your ears with so many sounds and beats you can't concentrate on them all. But don't take my word, go buy it if you're interested in this kind of music at all. February 23, 2001
