When a supposed hard rock band doesn't have any good hooks, vocal melodies, or guitar solos, you know you're in for a tough listen.

Dokken fits that description perfectly, I'm afraid. Maybe a threatening rock band at one point in time, nowadays their music just sounds like mindless party rock without really rocking out. Their music is so unmemorable that you can basically treat it as background music.

At least bands like Motley Crue and Ratt have some decent choruses from time to time. The music on this Dokken disc is just friendly music that passes by harmlessly. There's nothing about the singers vocal style, the melodies themselves, or the guitar solos that catch my attention. Basically Dokken has nothing going for them other than a reminder they used to be a fairly popular rock act, and were a distinct part of the 80's decade.

I can't recommend a purchase for anything this band has done. They just didn't write music that was very interesting to me. If you like the band, that's fine with me. Maybe other people can find some things about the band to like. April 27, 2008

A good cross-section from one of the better pop-rock bands of the 80s. Although not really a "guitar-god" George Lynch was well regarded for his axe-work. Good song-writing and strong vocals rounded out the band. Compared to the other "hair-bands" of the time, Dokken comes out near the top of the heap. A good collection for anyone nostalgic for 80s rock. February 10, 2007

I've been a huge fan of Dokken since the start; I first saw them live at a small venue in Davenport, Ia. opening for Krokus - I'm sure that didn't last too long since Dokken wiped the stage with them. This "Best Of" is a good collection if you're only looking for the "hits". It focuses mainly on the group's first four albums and does take the hits from each of those, but if you are a fan of the band I suggest getting all four of the albums(Breaking The Chains, Tooth And Nail, Under Lock And Key and Back For The Attack). All of those releases are "classics" of the 80's metal era and have too many good songs.
This album shows everyting great about Dokken; the songs(Just Got Lucky, Burning Like A Flame, etc.), the vocals(In My Dreams and Dream Warriors) and of course George Lynch(Paris Is Burning-intro and Mr. Scary).
If you're new to Dokken this is perfect as an introduction. However, if you are a fan you really need to look at each album individually as they all have some very strong moments - even the albums without George Lynch. November 8, 2006
