Elmer Bernstein, a true legend in film music, who was 77 years of age when he wrote Wild Wild West (he's 80 now!) always continues to impress me on writing a great theme. The main theme is a little similar to Alfred Newman's How The West Was Won and showcases a powerful brass section and graceful strings. This is the highlight of "Main Title" and the second part of "Main Title" bursts into Lalo Schifrin urban funk type rhythms. The theme reoccurs in several cues including "Dismissal", "Trains, Tanks, and Frayed Ropes", "Goodbye Loveless", and "Ride The Spider". There is a substantial amount of action music present which is trademark Bernstein with lots of snare drums and driving string rhythms. Bernstein's son Peter provided underscore on cues such as "Tanks, Trains, and Frayed Ropes", and "Goodbye Loveless". The choral chant "Loveless Hallelujah" is present in the cue "Loveless' Plan". All together an outstanding effort by Bernstein who still remains one of the greatest composers in film history.

Elmer Bernstein score is simply great, the muisc is a blend of western and rock. The only thing don't like is that the CD does not have the original TV theme that was in the part were James West rides off in to the sun set and will smith's song "Wild Wild West" and the soundtrack only has about 35 minutes. But score is sill great. I had never Heard of Elmer Bernstein untill "Wild Wild West" but if think that this will be like some of his soundtracks before "Wild Wild West" your wrong. Cool music for a cool film. I RECOMMEND.

Wild Wild West soundtrack is such a wonderful soundtrack, it is a perfect wild west music, themed very much alike the old television series about the wild west. It acctually reminds a little of Alan Sivestri's Back To The Future Part 3. It has a great theme, that unlike in many soundtracks, can be heard in almost every track. Although it is the same melody over and over again, each time it's played differently. Happy, sad, fast, slow, dramadically and so on. It features many styles, each fit his own scene in the movie. I believe this soundtrack takes the wild west soundtracks a step forward, because it is mixing styles that were not featued in wild west music until today. I enjoy hearing it again and again.
November 30, 2000Some movies have the lamest scores. You know, the usual: piano solos during romantic scenes, the "Psycho" thing during the horror scenes, and so on. But this score is pretty good. I've watched the movie a lot, so I decided to get this, after being not that thrilled over the soundtrack of. Most of the music is a basic repeat of the previous song, sort of twisted around, but it's good. I mean, the Titanic score did that too. It was good and all, but sometimes they just plainly repeated the a WHOLE song and just added a few more beats in the beginning before they started the song. But, no this one is pretty well made. It's fun and not all totally serious like some others, that leave you feeling depressed. The action music isn't as INTENSE as others. This makes you actually wake up and is really just lively music, where others make you unable to move after you witness to hearing music of an unspeakable tragity. It also adds a Western twist, not like Jon Wayne movies, but just kind of with the sound effect of trains passing by. Done pretty good for a score, which seems to be one of the hardest kind of music to produce, seeing that most of them are done so...bad. Very original for a Western.
