Well, there are many Jazz artist in Paris, and there are a lot of Jazz clubs in Paris such as St. Germain, and many great Jazz artist had great performance in Paris (Dee Dee Bridgewater, Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon, etc). However, France lacks of its own Jazz vocalist. It has Francoise Hardy, MIchel Jonaz who occational sings Jazz, but they ar rather pop singers than Jazz vocalist.

This album gathers many great Jazz standards in French, well, actually, there are a lot are original French songs or was song in French before they were song in English Blossom Dearie contributes a lot to this album, simply becasue her career was started in France, singing Jazz in French. Samething happens to Dee Dee Bridgewater and Nina Simone, who had relocated themself in Paris for quite a long time.

This is a CD worth to have if you want the feeling of "French" and "Jazz" combine together, and the music are good, in deed.

By the way, you will not want to miss Dutch singeress Laura Fygi's version of "Les Feuilles Mortes" (the very orignial verison of Autumn Leaves"). Her smoky sultry voice gave this famous French Chanson a new Jazzy look. I am so glad and proud that I had interviewed her personally when I was a DJ in the radio. October 23, 2003

Unfortunately, the first reviewer missed the whole point of making a review in the first place, and had absolutely nothing to say about the music itself. This is a great, sweet collection of classic French jazz tunes which collectively have a very loungy atmosphere. I own a restaurant in Montréal and this is easily one of the most frequently requested and inquired CDs that`s played. I sometimes feel my customers come to just enjoy the music. April 8, 2002
