About Audio Adrenaline - Underdog
Having broken out of the shadow of DC Talk, Audio Adrenaline has truly evolved into a band locked into their own sound, and they shine like the sun on the band's fifth studio album. With Underdog, they maintain their humility through musical discipleship, but that doesn't preclude the band from having fun--their sound is now distilled to an infectious guitar and keyboard-sweetened rock with enough heaviness and soul to temper the tender sentiments rendered. The title cut, fuzzy, rhythmic rock & roll with rough edges, is one that'll get stuck in your head for days. "DC-10," long part of the band's repertoire, makes an appearance here, rockabilly-style. Jennifer Knapp's poignantly rendered guest vocals add just the right touch to the scratch-and-loop-laden treatment of the hymn "It Is Well with My Soul," and "Get Down" is a radio friendly gem that'll have listeners bouncing around like mad. --Paige La Grone Amazon.com

For those of you that read my other reviews, you'll find that 5 stars is a rare occurence for me. I do that because it is only once in a while that an album is simply a cut above all others being produced. "Underdog" is just that kind of album. Audio Adrenaline is a band that has always worked a variety of musical styles, with a consistent message of faith in Jesus Christ. But on this album, AA hits a pinnacle of performance in all of their divergent styles. Want classic rock? Here comes the title track. Catchy pop? You'll never get "Get Down" out of your head. Rockabilly? "DC-10" (a remake of their own song from their first album) is a tight, fun 50's romp. A call to mission? "Hands And Feet" is as compelling a call as you'll hear. Classic hymns? How about "It Is Well With My Soul"? And one of the most performed AA songs of all, the hilarious but wonderfully relevant "The Houseplant Song" gives people the ability to question how they're putting their faith into action while smiling the whole time. Quite simply, this is very close to being Christian rock's masterpiece, in the same category as DC Talk's "Jesus Freak", Jars of Clay's eponymous debut or Petra's "More Power To Ya". If you could only buy 5 Christian pop albums in your entire life, this really should be one of them.
