Average user review:The 4th studio relase from Nine Inch Nails, and its dam good. The Downward Spiral was a hard act to follow, and it took a while but this is amazing Industrial Music from Trent Reznor the one true master of Industrial. May 2, 2008
Trent Reznor's Last Masterpiece
I've been hooked to Nine Inch Nails ever since I played their debut album PRETTY HATE MACHINE, their music was so good that I started buying more of their albums so I then bought their BROKEN EP which I loved to listen to and I noticed that over time their albums get heavier. Their 1994 album THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL really blew me away, The Downward Spiral (IMO) is one of the best albums ever made. Now for their 1999 release THE FRAGILE, when I first listen to this album I thought it was okay but I wasn't too crazy about it but after I listened to it several times it really started to grow on me. This is what I think of the tracks below:
SOMEWHAT DAMAGED- A good heavy song to start the album.
THE DAY THE WORLD WENT AWAY- it is a beautiful song and is also my all-time favorite song EVER!!!
THE FRAIL- A beautiful instrumental using a piano.
THE WRETCHED- One of the best songs on this album.
WE'RE IN THIS TOGETHER- Another great song, too bad the CD single's price is way too expensive.
THE FRAGILE- A great song with such a sad guitar solo.
JUST LIKE YOU IMAGINED- This instrumental track really shows Trent's musical genius.
EVEN DEEPER- One of my favorite songs off this album.
PILGRIMAGE- Trent really knows how to make cool istramentals.
NO, YOU DON'T- This track is about as heavy as anything you find in The Downward Spiral.
LA MER- Another beautiful instrumental by Trent.
THE GREAT BELOW- Good song but not one of my favorites.
THE WAY OUT IS THROUGH- One of their best tracks.
INTO THE VOID- Another great song ( and another insanely high-Priced CD single).
WHERE IS EVERYBODY- It is okay but not the best track.
THE MARK HAS BEEN MADE- Another one of my favorite instrumentals on this album.
PLEASE- It deserved a place on this album.
STARF*****s Inc.- It's second best to The Wretched.
COMPLICATION- Another instrumental that is worth listening to.
I'M LOOKING FOWARD TO JOINING YOU, FINALLY- Its okay but not the best.
THE BIG COME DOWN- Another favorite on this album.
UNDERNEATH IT ALL- An okay song.
RIPE(WITH DECAY)- A gothic instrumental that closes the album perfectly.
WITH TEETH and YEAR ZERO can't even compete with this two-disk masterpiece and probably never will. I reccomend this to all Nine Inch Nails fans and fans of the industrial-metal genre. April 27, 2008
Sealing the deal...
I need to state that I was not much a nine inch nails fan before I listened to this album but I think that it is a perfect way for fans to get introduced to this group that is nothing short of the best band I have heard in my short years on this planet. Trent Reznor, (lead singer, writer, producer, etc...) is undoubtably one of the best song writers in such a long time. Not only does he write all of the lyrics and songs but he also plays all of the instruments for the recordings. Trents music has literally saved my life...and this 2 disc cd is what started it all for me. April 20, 2008
A hidden gem
The hardcore fans undoubtedly are aware of what this album has to offer, but it is without question the least popular of the major NIN releases. There is a substantial amount of instrumental numbers on each CD, perhaps slight overkill, but I can listen to the whole thing without skipping anything. This has "We're in This Together" which never achieved mainstream popularity, but is easily in the all-time top 10, IMO.
If you've liked the other stuff, you simply must add "The Fragile" to your collection. March 6, 2008
CONTINUATION OF "THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL"? NOT EXACTLY.............
Many people think that this album picks up where TDS left off. Well, it doesn't. "The Fragile" takes you on a journey that kind of leaves you off where it begins. I think that the main character realizes that he has to stop looking for himself, and come to terms with the fact that he is who he is, and, like all of us, is a human being. ARTISTIC PERFECTION!!!!!
