| | Vintage and fabulous Clint Black | |
There's hardly a better song than "Put Yourself in My Shoes" to show off Clint Black's great vocals and harmonica playing. Then add "One More Payment" for great lyrics and "This Nightlife" for an upbeat driving song.
March 25, 2007 | | My entry point into country music
This is the album that introduced me to country music. A buddy of mine in the Navy insisted I give it a try. The stories Clint Black tells are exceptional. The word play in "One More Payment" is instantly accessible. I thought for years that the "hit song" on the album was "A Heart Like Mine." That song defined country music for me for almost a decade. Since my initial exposure I've gone on to enjoy more a bluegrass flavor (a la Dwight Yoakum) but I still return to this stunning album several times a year. It has stood the test of time, and is a true classic. If you're looking for an entry point into country music, this would be the album for you. Enjoy the word play, story telling, and musical virtuosity on display when you "put yourself in my shoes."
February 19, 2004Clint Black's second CD is pretty good on it's own merits, but pales in comparison to his debut. The title song is terrific, and "Gulf of Mexico" is a beautiful ballad. Also on the plus side is the great traditional country sound - it's not the kind of boring, easy listening stuff that many country stars are recording today. However, most of the songs simply don't stand out in the same way as the hits on his debut CD did. Overall, a good country CD that will likely satisfy fans of Clint Black and more traditional country music.
June 27, 2002 | | Decent, But Disappointing Follow Up
This is a good album, but is definitley the least involving Clint Black album. There is no awful track here, but there is also no huge standout song either.

I've just ordered this CD after years of listening to the cassette. It is my favorite CD by Clint, the songs seem to flow from one right into the next. Be that as it may, I would buy this CD for the pure pleasure of listening to two of its tracks over and over, The Old Man, and The Goodnight-Loving Trail. When a song can again give me goosebumps after hearing it hundreds of times, it is for real. Wonderful CD to listen to while driving the back roads.
