I was intrigued by Vanessa Paradis and heard "Be My Baby" and loved it. So I got this cd as my first one. However, it's got SO MUCH Lenny Kravitz, even his picture on the inside of the cd case, that I think he must have the biggest head on the face of the earth. That's just my honest impression. Here's a French girl, a very young one at that time, singing African American sounding lyrics and the music is very funky, retro, 60's, 70's, whatever. I would of given this four stars for Vanessa's sweet and passionate voice, but there's just too much Lenny over shadowing the whole thing. I am glad I have this cd, but I don't want Lenny Kravitz, I want Vanessa Paradis, which is why I am really looking forward to hearing her new cd. She's so much older now, and I hope it will reflect her true self and artistry. It's all in French. That's a good start. What does anyone think? Am I on track here?
February 6, 2008Lenny Kravitz wrote all the material, with an exeption of one song, that is a cover of The Velvet Underground (I'm Waiting For The Man), played most of the instruments and sang a few lines on one song (Lonely Rainbows). Whole album is sang in english.
Be My Baby, was a big hit in Europe. It sounds like a French Motown song, Sunday Mondays and Your Love Has Got A Handle On My Mind sound like a Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark or Supremes song.
This album is very much retro motown with a feel of sixties and seventies. Vanessa's singin' is great. This is one of the best pop albums from the ninties.
July 21, 2005I Love This CD. Am a big fan of Vanessa and have many of her CDs, but play this one the most. Have to replace my original CD, as there is now a skip in one of the songs. Guess I play it too much and take it everywhere. This girl can sing :-) This CD has a Jazz feel to it. There is a 60's 70's feel to it as well.
May 1, 2005I like when Van sings in french better but this album is wonderful. Great 70's vibe to it. Your love has a handle on my mind is my favorite song and silver and gold, natural high, be my baby and the rest are great also.
October 28, 2004I hear this Cd every single day. I heard about Vanessa about 5 months ago & I fell in love with her music. She's and overall OK singer. I know she's not Christina Aguilera but that's OK. This Cd is not 1 of her best Cd's (I think). But she does have great lyrics in this song. I liked this Cd because in the other Cd's that she's done she sounds diffrent and on this 1 it doesnt. That's what makes it so unique.
