MAA reminds me of a friend's amateur band in California. They had a loyal fanbase that came to their shows, and some clever songs, but never really caught on. MAA are clearly competent musicians, but after a few songs, the best-of collection all started sounding the same.
I still do enjoy their hit, "(Just Like) Romeo and Juliet," and I must say that "Nips are Getting Bigger" as a certain demented frat-boy charm, as does "Apocalypso" -- kudos for a great title -- but the rest is forgettable I'm afraid. June 1, 2008
| Before Barenaked Ladies... |
The humour and musicianship is high quality and the silliness of the lyrics made it all look deceptively easy. Without a doubt they were/are one of the most intelligent bands to come out of the Australian wave.
Their first three discs are still some of my faves, but if you are looking for a place to start this is a good compilation.
Fans of Barenaked Ladies may want to check this band out. August 26, 2007
