Hey everyone, I listen to a lot of music, from The Beach Boys to the Clash, from The Who to the Creation, The Aquabats to DEVO. In today's musical society, we are thrown a bunch of pop music, pop-punk and it almost all sounds the same. This album stands apart and is something you can listen to no matter what your mood. Songs like Rebel Sodville, America, Wave Motion Gun among others come to mind. The lyrics are fun to sing along and paint a picture of what he is singing about, which makes the experience of listening much more in depth. To anyone who loves good music, I highly recommend this album, you won't regret it, and if you do, than your out twenty bucks. Sorry! May 14, 2003

I had a friend from Ireland use the term "clever pop" to describe some of the music I like. Marcy Playground fits this description as well. I don't know about Ben Folds Five and some of the other bands mentioned, as I was driving to work today blasting Shapeshifter I was thinking there was a decidedly Smashing Pumpkins sound to this album - in particular in "All The Lights Went Out". Other faves include "our Generation" and "Love Bug". I would like to plug the song "America" but I feel the lyrics are a little, I don't know, derivative? "Secret Squirrle" and "Pigeon Farm" are good second-tier songs.

Why four stars? This band has a 5 star album in them. But this isn't it. October 19, 2002

i love this cd so much. its songs are fun and simple, yet beautiful and almost larger than life for some. every song makes me feel good. john's voice is amazing on "all the lights went out", and his short story lyrics are funny and interesting. this album is truly one of a kind from, in my opinion, an underrated band. i love every song on this cd. standouts are "rebel sodville", "all the lights went out", "never" and "america". I love Marcy Playground. There style is just amazing. I would recommend this CD to anyone who likes Ben Fold's Five, Three Doors Down or any other bands with a less main stream sound. This CD is definately a staple of my CD collection. I've listened to it so much, i need to re-buy it because i've worn my first one out. June 25, 2000
