rating: 5 Quotefine album from the great Rosemary ClooneyQuote
Rosemary Clooney - Greatest Hits is a solid CD of her wonderful work and artistry from RCA Victor. The quality of the sound is excellent; and I like the artwork, too. Great!

The album starts with Rosemary doing her very best with "Too Marvelous For Words." Rosemary's voice is in excellent form and she sings this with youthful enthusiasm and all her heart, too. The backup chorus works well and the big band arrangement sounds just perfect! All of this combines to make "Too Marvelous For Words" a very pretty tune and a strong opening for this CD. "Give Me The Simple Life" gets a very sensitive treatment from Rosemary who never misses a beat--even on those tempo changes! There's some great brass on "Give Me The Simple Life," too.

"You Took Advantage Of me" was always a favorite number of mine; I love it! Rosemary sings this well and her voice is truly a finely tuned musical instrument in and of itself. Rosemary delivers "You Took Advantage Of Me" with panache and this blows me away! Moreover, there's also "Mack The Knife;" Rosemary sings this a bit faster than Bobby Darin did but it still holds its own very well. There's a somewhat Latin arrangement on "Mack The Knife" that also enhances the tune. "I Only Have Eyes For You" again has a Latin flavored musical arrangement as Rosemary bats this straight out of the ballpark! I am very impressed by Rosemary Clooney singing "I Only Have Eyes For You."

"Bye Bye Blackbird" sounds fresh and new when Rosemary sings this so sweetly; the men on backup vocals bolster Rosemary Clooney's performance and it all works very well. "Everything's Coming Up Roses" from Gypsy also features Rosemary squarely in the spotlight--right where she belongs! Rosemary delivers this tune with a lot of heart and soul and she never sings a superfluous note!

"Sway" is a beautiful number that I first heard when Dean Martin sang it; Rosemary does this up right! The album ends nicely with Rosemary Clooney performing "Shine On Harvest Moon." "Shine On Harvest Moon" is a fine ending for this album; it's a gorgeous number and Rosemary leaves you wanting more!

Fans of Rosemary Clooney will definitely want this one in their collections. People who enjoy classic pop vocals will not be disappointed.

These are Rosie's hits from just 1959 and 1960! It's a little time capsule. She's got a MILLION of 'em. Picture Fosse choreography on a 50's variety show: Cool, cool dancers/hats and gloves, winking, swinging to Bye Bye Blackbird. Give me the Simple Life, April in Paris - She really was too marvelous for words. July 5, 2007

This greatest hits album has a very nice mix of Rosemary's hits. Being on two cd's is inconvenient for driving. I have enjoyed this release very much. June 30, 2000
