About Billy Gilman - One Voice
While Nashville's "country for kids" campaign has largely been a bust, this 12-year-old plows fearlessly and headlong into anything and everything thrown his way. Tammy Wynette's classic "'Til I Can Make It on My Own" doesn't faze him. Neither do cotton-candy pop oldies ("Little Things" and "Little Bitty Pretty One"), oddball novelties ("The Snake Song"), or inspirational fare ("There's a Hero"). His credible delivery of "Oklahoma," the moving tale of one boy's trip to meet a long-vanished father, is a fine performance that transcends his age. Don't blame him for the weak spots. Credit for the cookie-cutter arrangements and such soggy ballads as the preachy title track goes to multiple producers Don Cook (Music Row's dean of formulaic production), David Malloy, and Blake Chancey. As always, their goals are to satisfy the one-dimensional country-radio consultants who dictate what gets played, nothing more. Long ago, producers Owen Bradley and Billy Sherrill helped Brenda Lee and Tanya Tucker, respectively, build youthful success into enduring adult careers. If only young Gilman had such visionaries enhancing his talent. --Rich Kienzle Amazon.com

| Hear Billy's Prodigious VOICE! |
Now with that out of the way, I would like to add this : I have been in vocal music for 40 years and wrote the musical score to one motion picture, but Billy Gilman's voice, as heard in this album is singulary clear among myriads of other voices. It is analogous to the TITLE song and is literally, ONE VOICE among a million!
May I entice the readers with a bit of comedy relief? Buy this CD and find yourself laughing with delight when you listen to the clever chart, "The Snake Song." I am still laughing at how CLEVER this song is. Billy must have had quite a few "hee-hee's" and "ha-ha's" when he recorded it. Wonderful comedy relief.
Overall : this album is a stunning AURAL testament to superb
vocal technique. I have sung with some of the finest OPERA voices and mixed chorals in the world ... but Billy's voice is SO transparent and his vocal technique is so controlled and REALLY even through his ENTIRE range, that I dare say that he exceeds even my former University voice Professor and she was a former Opera diva.
For the record : One voice is worth the price of the CD.
May I add that the chart, "Oklahoma" is an emotionally charged
melody and the listener would do well to SEE the Video which Billy made of this chart. Get your kleen-ex box ready!
A must buy. Incredible!!
