Let us all take a sip from the cup of wisdom from which this man creates. This song is at the top of my list of all time greats and I have listened to some music. Mos has proven over and again that he indeed is a messenger and acknowlegdes the fact that he is merely the instrument by which God is speaking to us. He is not perfect, he is not beyond mortal but his music is "eternal magnetic you should respect it." Every time his cd walks mysteriously, I let it roll off my back because I feel like at least the messages he's bringing is touching people enough for them to want to steal it.

I first heard this track on the movie "One Week". The movie only contained a small sample, but it was enough for me to record the piece straight from the DVD!! I really didn't know who the artist was when I first heard the track because I thought the name of the song would be something like "Tomorrow May Never Come" or "Let It Shine". I also heard this track again on Showtimes "Soul Food" episode #63. The ending credits of "Soul Food" gave me no indication of the track name or artist. I researched the internet, but still could not find any information on this track. I finally looked at the movie "One Week" again and double checked the credits. When I saw Mos Def's "Umi Says's" rolling up the screen, I knew that had to be the track. I was never big on Mos Def, but this track really got my attention. The first part of the song really fits the theme for the movie "One Week". I plan to add his other albums to my collection. The way he speaks in this song made me compare him to Gil Scott-Heron(my favorite artist). I'm more of an instrumental jazz person myself, but I know good lyrics when I hear them and these lyrics definately need to be heard all across the world!! Let It Shine! March 29, 2004
