About Bush - Razorblade Suitcase

Gavin Rossdale may try his best to sound like Kurt Cobain, and his British band may strum and bang Seattle-style, and Steve Albini may produce like he never left the alterna-grunge basement, but the songs here are pure pop for now people--now being Grunge-mania 1996. The lyrics always loop around in disjunctive fits and Albini ensures the band stops and starts in discomforting style but deep down Rossdale has his radio tuned to the FM-radio hits of yesteryear. "Swallowed" is the obvious single but "History," "Greedy Fly," and others have a sugary side that's pure ear candy underneath the harsh wailings. --Rob O'Connor Amazon.com

rating: 5 QuoteNot just Bush's best album, a great and overlooked post-grunge albumQuote
Lately I've been going through a lot of the 90's stuff in my collection, and started listening to Bush again in a fit of nostalgia. Very radio-friendly, forgettable stuff if I can be honest. I don't anticipate again dusting off Sixteen Stone for a long time, or even Golden State.

But Razorblade Suitcase... this album does not sound like typical Bush (aside from the radio single "Swallowed").

I've come to consider Razorblade Suitcase as not just Bush's best album, but a great 90's album that showcases what post-grunge could've been.

Razorblade Suitcase never reached the popularity of Sixteen Stone so, sadly, all successive material played it safer. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. July 1, 2008

This album is not as good as Sixteen Stone, Bush's 1st album. This album almost seems to have taken a step backward in quality and originality. There are a few good songs that stood out, but other than that, I am not really that interested in this CD. A good buy for someone who wants a good Bush collection? Other than that, just look up the popular songs and get those without spending the money on the CD. "Greedy Fly" is the only song I can think of right now that stands out as a good one. May 11, 2008

Let's keep this short and sweet.

Bush was a great band. 'Sixteen Stone', 'The Science of Things', and 'Golden State' were great albums by this great band. 'Razorblade Suitcase' was not. I don't know why, but the album just lacks any songs that give you that rush you feel when you hear songs like "Everything Zen," "Headful of Ghosts," or "The Chemicals Between Us." These and the other songs off their three good albums make you feel something, but Razorblade Suitcase just bores you. At least it did me. November 16, 2007

I think most reviewers are correct in stating that Sixteen Stone and Golden State are their best albums. However, I really like all of Bush's music and this is a good one. Still, if you are just starting with Bush, you might want to get one of their best, before this one. August 22, 2007

While this is not as successful as their debut, they still had at least four hit songs: "Swallowed", "Greedy Fly", "Cold Contagious" and "Mouth".
If you were a fan of Sixteen Stone, this should be another welcome addition to your collection. After this cd, Bush kind of lost popularity and released two relatively weak records, at least compared to their first two. I would start with this and 16 Stone, and then try out the others. I consider this another must-own hard rock/grunge cd. August 2, 2007
