Mudvayne - L.D. 50

NU METAL?

Well yes this album is nu metal well at least some songs cause if you say that mudvayne's two later releases are nu metal well your wrong.This album is pretty heavy for a nu metal album it's really awesome and if you like heavy music then get this,but like i said this is the only nu metal album by them just cause they are called nu metal doesn't mean they are.The end of all things to come is heavy alternative metal,proggresive and not nu metal and same with lost and found.Trust me if there's someone who hates nu metal is me but mudvayne HAS a nu metal record but is not a nu metal band and even though this album is i still like it cause is like the heaviest they've done.But their second album probably has more heavy sounds so maybe that's the heaviest only the screams might be louder in L.D. 50.So this album is NU metal(ugh!)and math metal but pretty HEAVY! GREATEST ALBUM EVER!!!

This is my all time favorite album!!! All the songs on it are amazing. There is so much random things hidden in this album also that make it an even more intriguing album, for example the chemical components on the inside folds of the booklet are all major chemicals used in making LSD. Which plays a huge role in this album whether it be the chemical components, the 14th track titled Pharmaecopia entirely based on drugs and the effects of hallucinogens or the spoken words of Terence McKenna
(the creator of LSD) on the track Monolith explaining his theory of evolution and how humans evolved from apes by eating hallucinogenic mushrooms.The album art also features the Sephirot of Hermetic mysticism inside the booklet. The album is strongly influenced by Skinny Puppy and believe it or not 2001: A Space Odessy (in which the band actualy takes time to thank the movie). The music is amazing with the off tempo jazz influenced bass riffs, math metal drum beats, screaming guitar riffs and the beauty and brutality of front man Chad Gray's (or Kud as he goes by in this album) vocals and lyrics. All I can say is get it and lose yourself in it, I did.I literaly listened to it for over a year as the ONLY album I would listen to if it ended i would start it over so if that doesn't help sway your choice nothing will!!!

rock amania

I dig this album this album was fantastic a really awsome math metal group i have all their albums and they were awsome to. Dig is a exploding song on this album whicth i really liked even the two remixies of the song, dig is good on their second album but this album was great great reverses and technology but don't get their fifth album a total wast just demo versions and some live versions of the songs that was on their first second and third album theirs only 3 knew song on that album and but otherwise this debut was great. What happened?

In revisiting this phenomenal piece of hybrid metal,I can only wonder what happened to Mudvayne on more recent outings. It seemed to me that here was a band that was on a cutting edge of progressive/aggro/math hybrid metal,forget the nu-metal moniker as that is assigned to garbage the likes of Limp Bizkit or Korn or Puddle of Dudd...these guys really had something with this album that made them immediately stand out and over their "peers". Eventually I think all metal bands must mature and progress,but as is the case with Mudvayne I think they have adopted a more mainstream and commercialized sound that is more radio friendly than their earlier efforts. I'm not saying they have to go back to Ld-50 and remake its sound...no not at all,but the creativity and talent that went into creating this musical tour-de-force shouldnt be allowed to wane in the wake of blatant commercialism. Case in point: Mastodon,arguably a band that keeps pushing the envelope of hard music,albeit a different genre-within-a genre,but still I think a good argument for just doing what comes naturally. Lets face it,these guys have a boatload of talent,they should capitalize on that. April 3, 2008
