About Sacred Spirit - Sacred Spirit, Vol. 2: More Chants and Dances of the Native Americans
Given the multi-million-copy selling success of Sacred Spirit: Chants and Dances of the Native Americans, its follow-up, Sacred Spirit II is bound to have a built-in audience. Like its predecessor, the collection mixes chant and song with dance beats and electronic instrumentation. While tracks such as "Dela Dela" and "Yane-Heja-Hee" meld these elements most effectively, the overall effect of the synthesized sound is heavily over the top and distracting from the gentle melodies and heartfelt cries of Native music at its best. A prime example is the tender and lovely female vocal on "May You Walk in Sunshine," obscured by overly aggressive accompaniment. A more solid and aesthetically pleasing choice for the genre is Prophecy: A Native American Collection, which achieves a finer balance of modern and ancient. --Paige La Grone Amazon.com

The first Sacred Spirit album touches me deeply ... in particular the closing tracks which in my opinion represent some of the best music Klaus Zundel (aka The Brave) has ever written. My favorites are the wonderful 'Heya-Hee: Intertribal Song To Stop The Rain' and the CD's closer 'Yo-Hey-Ohee: Brandishing The Tomahawk' - one of the most powerfully haunting and emotive pieces of music I've heard. It's heartbreakingly beautiful.
This follow-up CD (Vol2. More Chants and Dances...) feels derivative and, at times, super cheesy. A lot of it is pure muzak - light 'n' fluffy world fusion with zero 'edge'. OK, some of the first album had some pretty cheesy moments too, and I can see how people who aren't too familiar with electronic dance music might gravitate towards this stuff - but I'm discerning about my dance music so the rhythms and melodies just sound lame to me.
I have a cynical theory. Since the first CD sold millions, I think the talented Austrian composer may have simply bashed this one out... and then ran straight to the bank!

done with some of the most amazing music I've ever heard.
The music has a rhythmic beat that's very catchy, but very soothing. I enjoyed it immensely. May 7, 2007
