User Reviews
Average user review:| A good German language CD, but not Mireille's best. |
The title does not fit the CD. "Nur das beste" (Only the Best) is inaccurate. As usual, Ms. Matheiu's talent's, and supporting team (arrangers, songwriters, musicians, and supporting singers) are generally very good. I just do not like the duplication of songs in this CD from other collections. Of the fifteen songs on this collection, six are also on "Rendezvous". Additionally, I do not care for many of her early German hits, including five of these "Rendezvous" songs. However, Mireille is still Mireille and she has two songs on this album which tip the balance in her favor. As I have said in other reviews, "Winter im Canada" is a wonderful song, and it is on this CD. Curiously, it is titled "Winter in Canada" on this CD. Additionally, "Immer frei sein" (Always Freely Given) is very good and unique song which greatly increases the merits of this album. Also helping is the reframing of two Piaf songs. "Schau mich bitte nicht so an" (Show me, Don't Ask) uses the music of "La vie ein rose", while "Die Welt ist schon, Milord" (The World is Beautiful, My Lord) uses the music from "Milord". The latter song especially helps this CD as Ms. Mathieu performs this song exceptionally, regardless of the language. It is basically a show tune, and she usually performs show tunes very well. "Hans im Gluck" (Hans in Luck) is an impossibly happy song such as would have been sung by Guy Mitchell in the USA in the 1950s. That type of song is so rare now that it sounds better than it should. "Der wein war aus Bordeaux" (The Wine was from Bordeaux) is a good love song which also helps lift the album. Overall, not Mireille's best German CD, but it has some redeeming features and songs. | Her German Repertoire |
This new Compilation includes some of her best German songs recorded during the past three decades. Included here are "Schau Mich Bitte Nicht So An" (La Vie En Rose) & "Die Welt Ist Schon, Milord" (Milord) to the early hits "Martin", "Ganz Paris Ist Ein Theater". The last track is taken from her latest Album "Alles Nur Ein Spiel". Her voice is unique and will sure spellbind all listeners around the world with this new set. November 6, 2001
