Average user review:| a very sentimental journey indeed !!! |
"The More I See You" is a slow romantic ballad that Doris makes this all her own with her excellent timing and diction. The music to accompany her is just right, too. "I Had The Craziest Dream/I Don't Want To Walk Without You" allows Doris to perform a medley and she never misses a beat! Indeed, Doris bats this straight out of the ballpark! This truly is Doris Day at the peak of her vocal prowess. She sounds wonderful. There's also "I'll Never Smile Again;" this gets a slower tempo than I'm used to but it all holds its own very well. I love it!
"I Remember You" sounds heavenly when Doris gives this the full royal treatment; and the strings enhance the natural beauty of this haunting love song. "I'm Beginning To See The Light" is truly beautiful and much more romantic than ever before when Doris sings this; you're bound to enjoy "I'm Beginning To See The Light" very, very much.
"Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars (Corcovado)" is a Latin flavored ballad that lets Doris show off her excellent ability to perform a Latin ballad with panache, heart and soul. "Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words)" also stands out as a major highlight of this album; it's a lovely ballad and Doris never sings a superfluous note! "Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words)" has always been one of my very favorite love songs.
"How Insensitive (Insensataez)" has a Brazilian flavor to it that renders this song a masterpiece; and when Doris sings it you'll know this is perfect music for slow dancing with your sweetheart late at night in your living room. "Slightly Out Of Tune (Desafinado)" is equally beautiful and Doris handles the difficult key changes like the pro she was and remains! "Our Day Will Come" also sparkles with romance and the music enhances this number very well.
"Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps (Quizas, Quizas, Quizas)" strikes me with its beauty; Doris sings this with plenty of energy and it all works very well. The album also ends very well with Doris Day performing "Por Favor;" this romantic Latin tune lacks nothing--it's all THAT good.
Doris Day deserves much more recognition that she gets; and this CD proves it. Her fans will be charmed by this CD and people who love classic pop vocals will want this for their collections, too.
