Miss Haines is an exceptionally effervescent, gifted, and musically versatile singer of all genres. She sings with great ease and warmth, brimming with an enthusiasm unparalleled in her day. Her diction, phrasing, timing, and sense of rhythum are impeccable. Totally refreshing and joy to listen to!
September 21, 2005 | | One of the Best "Big Band Girl Singers"! | |
Connie Haines is certainly one of the best of the female vocalists who sang with the big bands in the 30's and 40's. She's been overlooked, but now is the time for her renaissance. She sang with Tommy Dorsey's Orchestra (subsequently earning the distinction of being one of the first to harmonize with Frank Sinatra, who also had a "tour of duty" with Dorsey's band) and sang with other bands and on radio. I first saw her and heard her sing in the Esther Williams' movie "Duchess of Idaho" where she sings the delightful novelty song "Let's Choo Choo Choo To Idaho" and the sassy swing number "Of All Things". If only those numbers were on this CD! She has a wonderful creamy voice and sings like a dream. I highly recommend this CD to anyone who likes female vocalists who know how to "swing"!
