I've reviewed the other big four. Slayer,Metallica,Testament.
I KNOW, Anthrax.
Not a fan, never was.
Anyway, Megadeth's first album.
It's ok. A few decent tracks here and there.
How does it stack up against Kill Em All.
It doesn't.

The only reason why i didnt give this remastered cd 5 stars is because
most of the words that dave put into the "these boots remake"
have been bleeped out via the original writer.
I loved megadeth's version of these boots but LEE HAZELWOOD after
years of collecting proceeds from the remake decided it was now
offensive and vile.......JERK!
Any how the cd is great.Dave and the guys have given us some bonus
material which is demo versions of LAST RIGHTS, MECHANIX and THE SKULL
BENEATH THE SKIN.
It is great hearing these song's from the original cd remastered.
The production is great.
I really enjoyed the written story lines that Dave and the boys
included in the sleeve.
If you are a megadeth fan there is a lot of written information
in these story lines that we wouldn't have known otherwise.

The same dear friend who gave me a listen to Exodus' Force of Habit also played this album for me when it first came out back in the mid- 80's and I thought it was pretty dang good. He really liked it and since he kept playing it I started to feed off his vibe and I knew then that "The Business of Killing" was much better than pretty dang good, it was 'Great'". The only flaw was that Mustaine's vocals were 'too speed' for the music and songs. Over the years he's since got his vocals timing down for his true skull crushing speed metal tunes, yet his supreme axe skills still remain to be much faster than he can sing. Oh well. For me its just the way he punishes the listener with his music when he really wants to, and on "Killing..." he does it with deathly precision! This album is pure speed sugar and with the song "These boots" it gets a well deserved 5 stars. I dare anyone to watch the Nancy Sinatra version of this song not to want to listen to this album. Just you try it and see for yourself!

When I was first looking to get into Megadeth, I decided to start with what many considered their best album: Peace Sells. After several listens, I determined that I simply didn't get why everyone loved the album. It wasn't terrible or anything, but aside from a couple of tracks it was totally unmemorable. That dissatisfaction was very nearly the end of my experience with Megadeth. Fortunately, I happened to find a $4 copy of Youthanasia at a used CD store, and wisely decided to give them another shot. After falling in love with that album, I quickly snapped up the store's other Megadeth albums (Countdown to Extinction and the bulk of what are generally considered their lesser recordings), and bought the ones I couldn't find there online... except for this one. The reviews I'd read seemed mediocre at best, I hadn't been impressed with Peace Sells, which had the same line-up as this one, and the fact that So Far, So Good... So What? was competing with Risk for the title of "least-favorite Megadeth album" made me think that perhaps their earlier stuff simply wasn't my thing. Still, the thought of completing my Megadeth collection was nagging at me, and after a month or two of resisting it I finally caved and bought this album.

Having now owned this album for quite some time, let me just say, I was an idiot to hesitate for so long. I have four main Megadeth albums that I listen to constantly: Rust in Peace, Countdown to Extinction, The System Has Failed, and this one. Of those four, this is without question the one I listen to most, although that's as much a function of its short running time as its awesomeness. This album is my standard "short" album selection when I'm listening to music, and competes with only two or three other albums for most played CD in my entire collection. It's a half-hour (I skip the rather pointless demo versions) of fast-paced, non-stop thrashy fun. The band is much heavier and more raw (which is not to say tuneless, which was one of my fears from the reviews I'd read) here than they are on any of their subsequent releases, and it definitely works to their favor. I can't think of a single track I dislike, and picking one or two favorite tracks is tricky because they're all so good. I suppose I'd have to say that overall "Loved to Deth," "Killing is My Business," and the phenomenal "Looking Down the Cross" are my favorites, but as I type this it's "Chosen Ones" (another exemplary track) that's stuck in my head.

Bottom line: if you like Megadeth, don't deprive yourself like I did... buy this album now. January 28, 2008

There is a school of thought that says 'good things are even better if they don't drag on' and this album proves it. The original release was only 29 minutes long but there is a lot of quality musicianship and songwriting packed into the 8 songs found herein (not to mention aggression). The only short-fall was the somewhat-tinny production (which has been rectified to some extent).

That aside this stands along-side 'Rust...' as my equal second-favourite Megadeth album ('Peace...' being the favourite). From 'Countdown...' on they lost the aggro (to an extent), although the last couple, from what I've heard, go some way towards retrieving it.

In short, this album kicks arse so don't let the lesser production put you off. Buy it now. You need it! MK November 9, 2007
