This CD is excellent if you are a Quicksilver fan. There are cuts that I have never heard before as well as better cuts from Albums that you might not want the whole CD of.. I think that the choice of material is excellent for a simple CD like this, although I might have included Fire Brothers or Don't Cry my lady love from the Quicksilver Album instead of Hope but I am sure there were reasons for this. I also have The double CD Best of Quicksilver Messenger Service Sons of Mercury that was put out some years back by Rhino, and the sound quality in this CD is about ten times better than that one. I think that some of the problem may be that the original analog tapes just do not have the quality of today's digital recordings, but as far as I was concerned the sound quality is excellent. I don't think that Capital could have done much better. A lot more attention went into this CD than went into the original recordings for these guys. The collection is not all inclusive as this could not be done on a single CD of this type, but what you get is worth much more than the price you are paying...

Quicksilver is considered as a primary model for the SF sound and laying the foundation for the jam band scene which appears to be going strong. I enjoy this compilation and is great to hear lost songs such as Pride of Man. My favorite QMS albums are Happy Trails, one of the great live albums of any time period, and Shady Grove with the welcome addition of the great Nicky Hopkins to the SF scene.

Funny thing, almost all of these dudes are dead and died young of all the stuff they sang about that they wanted legalized...how funny and ironic.
Anyhoo....cool CD. One of my most played. Other than two songs, I'd never heard any of them until I bought the CD. Now three of my favs are What About Me, Fresh Air, and Dino's Song.
Not a waste of money, but look for a used one.

At this stage of my life, I do not have the time to listen to as much of the old Hard-Rock music that I would like. However, this QSM gem is always a trip down memory lane. When my wife is out of the house, I crank this up as loud as possible!!!! Oh, to be 20 years old again.
July 16, 2007This album/CD was only a few dollars, thankfully! It had, perhaps, two cuts that were worth remembering. Too bad I didn't remember that when I took the offer (like a hungry trout).
It's better left in the dust bin.
