Moroccan Spirit, The Brave - Moroccan Spirit

The lush Moroccan Spirit emphasizes music's meditative qualities, but this imaginative mix of traditional and modern also works on a less contemplative level. The Brave--the guy behind Sacred Spirit, Indigo Spirit, and B-Tribe--traveled throughout Morocco over a five-year period with a microphone and a tape recorder, capturing the essence of both the Arab and Berber cultures. He then wove these disparate musical threads into a cohesive multicultural musical fabric using unobtrusive electronic beats and studio programming. There's even a bit of electronic groove on some of the more upbeat tracks. "Jim I Nim" and "La Mamounia" crackle with the vitality of traditional Moroccan dance music, but could easily work at hip world-music-friendly nightclubs. Mellow highlights include the somber "Music for 1001 Nights: Outro" and "Moroccan Soul," which is propelled by soulful women singers. Real Spirit

I have listened on quite a number of occasions to this cd since purchasing it over a month ago. While I find it technically very good and an excellent piece of work in it's own right, I cant help but feel that this is a little too much of a western and european interpretation of Moroccan spirit, which is essentially North African. I would describe it as primarily "spiritual" or athmospheric, with an essence of Morocco. I have seen several examples of this type of effect in Irish "traditional" music as portrayed by well known individuals and groups and the pure versions to be experienced in remote corners of our lovely island. Soothing... well... for the most part...

This album is absolutely fantastic. If you have a flavor for Moroccan music you'll love it. The only reason I dislike this album is because it has lyrics in a couple of songs whereas I was hoping for an album with no singing. It's beautiful singing nonetheless. January 12, 2008

Excellent rhythms for ATS dance

Overall this is a great selection of music pieces. Several songs that are perfect rhythm for ATS style dance, earthy with sensual percussion beats. If you are buying this for practice or performance or just to listen too, its a worthy addition to any collection.

good tracks

I bought this cd purely for track 2. But the rest of the album is worth listening to. In fact when I am in the mood, I will only listen to track 2 and 4. They are mellow, and lovely for slow ATS. October 23, 2007
