About Carole King - Tapestry (Multichannel/Stereo)

Carole King was famous as a writer of girl-group hits in the '60s. In 1971, she became more famous. That's the year Tapestry became one of the biggest-selling LPs of all time. It's easy to hear why--the music is loose, earthy, L.A. session-pop. King is casual, intimate, and tough; she covers all the emotional ground of the post-liberated woman with ease. She brings adult nuance to "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" and comes up with hits ("It's Too Late," "I Feel the Earth Move") whose white-soul realism and maturity put pop hits to shame. --Steve Tignor --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. Tapestry is one of the great pop albums of all time. But "pop" does not define what Tapestry is. Carole King wrote songs with a musical sense that belongs to the great songwriters of all time, from the classical songs of Schubert, great church hymns, Stephen Foster, Gershwin, and of course the best contemporary song-writing.

The point is that Carole King wrote great songs that defy easy categories. I hate the labels: country, rock, pop, adult easy listening,.... blah blah. Hey, a good song is a good song and can probably be done in any number of styles, from country to jazz. And all of those styles are American, now, anyway, duh...

And Carole King put a bunch of great songs on Tapestry and sang them with a big heart that makes you believe every word she is singing. So cry, laugh and enjoy this American Song treasure that will last well beyond the time we are all gone. Make sure your children hear Tapestry: an education in great music, a heartfelt slice of life as we really feel it.

This was recorded around the time I was born, but it truly is timeless. So few artists span across multiple generations, but Carole King is one of them. I never get tired of listening to this album and no matter how I feel on any given day, something about her voice combined with the lyrics, leaves me with a sense of well being.

In the 1970s, Carole King topped the list of favorite female singers. Her poetry and songs have matured with the rest of the generation, but this remains the defining album of the folk rock era. May 25, 2008

I can't figure out why I hadn't bought the CD version of this album until now. I had it on vinyl for years and finally got the CD so I can listen to it in my car. Now I remember why it was one of the all-time best selling albums of all time. Every song is a hit - great music by a great singer/songwriter. One of the best albums every doe and as relevant today as it was back when it was written. May 19, 2008

I've heard many of these songs before, but wasn't aware of the album until it was talked about on American Idol. To put it simply, I absolutely LOVE the CD! I only wish I would have found it sooner (the album was released the year I was born). I have become a BIG Carole King fan! She has timeless appeal. May 9, 2008
