I'm not sure how someone stumbles upon a masterpiece but I did with this release by Denny Doherty. Although several decades old, "Watcha Gonna Do" is brilliant and as tuneful today as it was way back when in 1971 when it was first released.

This is a well written, produced and played CD that reflects the sounds that started to emerge in the late 60's/early 70's.

Clearly, Denny Doherty is very talented and had a much bigger role in the vocal harmonies of the Mamas and Papas than I ever imagined. After listening to this CD, I realized that Denny with his laid back personality allowed John Phillips to be the front man but in many ways Denny was a very powerful influence on this group.

It really is a pity that this release when it first was made available to the public never found a massive audience. It's so good and deserving of great success. It's a loss for music that the public wasn't exposed to Denny as a solo artist as he really commands the situation with his talent and you take notice.

If you want to really hear some of the most interesting sounds that came out of the late 60's and early 70's, then buy this CD. It is wonderful and the product of a very amazing recording artist, Denny Doherty. April 18, 2004

This laid-back C D's tracks burst through pop-country normalcy and ALL have great, great sound! Enjoy the revved up energy of "Still Can't Hear the Music" - it absolutely will wake up a party. Doherty takes his "Got A Feelin" someplace deeper than when he sang it with the Mamas. "Neighbors" is easy-to-like. Finally - "Gathering the Words" should have won a grammy. January 10, 2003

The songs on this compact disc could be applied to our own lives. The lyrics are poignant, the melodies-pretty. The studio ambiance is easy-going.

I was well aware that Mr. Doherty is a gifted singer. His romantic voice exudes warmth and honesty. But I had no idea what an exceptional songwriter he is! His self-penned Don't You Be Fooled is totally evocative. He collaborates with other songwriers on this album, besides. In fact, he comes up with one of the best ballads in the business this way, called Gathering the Words.

But I like the faster stuff best. Still Can't Hear the Music is my personal pick; It's country, and it rocks!

Along with his own 12-string guitar playing, Mr. Doherty surrounds himself with a bevy of high-caliber musicians. Because this compact disc has magnificent clarity and a high sound quality, you'd think Mr. Doherty and his entourage were performing live right before your very eyes!

Which all makes Watcha Gonna Do - timeless! September 18, 2002
