I absolutely love this band and own every CD they ever released. Not a song I don't like. Cannot believe this band broke up and does not plan on ever getting back together. Some bands just have that ability to emotionally move you with their lyrics and music. This is definitely one of those bands. Great songwiters. I even heard a band called "The Thorns" release a decent cover of the song "Blue" from this album. JAYHAWKS if you read this then tell me what the heck are you all thinking!? The Jayhawks are by far one of the all-time great American bands. Their sound is alternative country in my opinion. Country with a rock edge to it. I don't think they really ever got the fame or respect they truly deserved. This CD is probably one of their best, along with "Hollywood Town Hall" although every cd they ever released are all really very good. Try and get your hands on "Live at the Womens Club" Vol. 1 & 2 for acoustic unplugged Jayhawk music covering their entire history.

If the band were allowed to record this the way they performed these songs in concert, it would have sold more. A terrific step forward with a band improved by the addition of piano player and a drummer who both can contribute wonderful vocal harmony to the "univoice" harmonies of leaders Olson and Louris. A little bit of overproduction makes the sound a tad dense at times, but that is really a minor consideration, as the songs are well-written and arranged.
The title song "Tomorrow The Green Grass" could have fit nicely amongst the tracks on the album that bears its name, but you have to buy "National Lampoon's Senior Trip" Soundtrack CD to get that song, along with 'Darling Today' from the soundtrack to the film "Blown Away".

If I remember correctly I first came to notice the Jayhawks after hearing the single from this album, the opening track "Blue". It is still a favorite of mine and one of the best songs this band has ever done. Most Jayhawks fans tend to rate "Hollywood Town Hall" over this album, but for me I think I like this one a bit better. The music is still roots rock Americana with maybe a bit more country influence this time around. Along with "Blue" other highlights include, "I'd Run Away", "Miss Williams Guitar", "Nothing Left To Borrow", "Ann Jane" and the album closer "10 Little Kids". Jayhawks albums never blow me away, but I do like them for what they are. This is another strong effort if you are a fan of this genre of American music. June 4, 2007

Sweetly chagrined rock and romantically whimsical alt, the Jayhawks finest CD. March 20, 2007

in 10+ years since hearing a couple of fine tracks off the Jayhawks 'Tomorrow the Green Grass' upon its release in '96, i realised i never got around to buying it (now a v. difficult opus to track down here in Australia). Since it arrived the other day from US (via Amazon) i haven't stopped playing it, & the tunes have stuck in my head since. Not merely a 'country' tinged album, the songs hold more to their basis than first appears, as do their musical arrangements. It has easily withstood the test of time hearing it again now...what some may term classic...but i simply term, damn fine! January 23, 2007
