If you only buy one Scorpions album from their early years with RCA records than this would be it. All of their early hits are on this live album along with a couple of fun covers.

For those who have not seen the Scorpions live, they are one of the cleaner sounding bands and it definatley comes through on this live album.

On a side note, this is Herman Rarebell's first album with the band. September 2, 2008

This CD rocks, best live album the Scorpions have ever or will ever release, put the others to shame. Best songs, including a couple of Elvis songs, from the early years with most of the oringinal group intact. The sound is not of great quality, but does not dimisish the CD in any way, just play it loud. This is a keeper. May 26, 2008

In the 1970s, rock and roll live records were at their peak. Peter Frampton was acheiving huge success with his 'Frampton Comes Alive!' record, which documented a concert he gave in San Francisco. Led Zeppelin was acheiving commercial success with the soundtrack to their concert film, 'The Song Remains The Same.' And of course, Lynyrd Skynyrd had 'One More From The Road.'

But, what always puzzles me is the fact that Scorpions' incredible live record 'Tokyo Tapes' is always left in the dust.

This is an essential record documenting the legendary heavy metal band's shows recorded in Japan in late 1978. The record was released in 1978 on the RCA label, but I see Hip-O has remastered it.

I still own the vinyl of this, and I have looked at the track listing and noticed that 'Polar Nights' was left off. But I'm not bothered at all; as the previous reviewer pointed out, that appears on the reissued version of 'Taken By Force.' And, that wasn't one of the highlights (to me) on this disc anyway.

I have listened to the tracks and I am shocked with how well Hip-O did at remastering this. 'In Trance' sounds better than it ever had before; 'Steamrock Fever' still has the same charm it had 30 years ago, and the cover of the legendary Japanese folk song 'Kojo No Tsuki' is really interesting.

Overall, if you're a Scorpions fan who hasn't invested your money in one of their live records, than this set is highly recommended. Buy it with 'World Wide Live!' and you have a great Scorpions live collection.

A great live record and a must-have. Highly recommended. ENJOY!!! April 13, 2008

It's not a bad album at all... but it's not as good as I hoped it would be. But there is something that I must say, there are some true classics here that should be featured in whatever Greatest Hits packages they put together, and they haven't. It's a good album to get if you're interested in the Uli Roth era (great guitarist, by the way!) February 9, 2008

I'm not much for live albums, but this is really worth picking up if you want to hear what they sounded like before they went MTV/commercial. Since finding the early pre-lovedrive stuff is relativly difficult and expensive to find in the states, this is a great CD to get for some 70s stings. You get select songs from all of the records they did up till that point in time. Recorded in Tokyo Sunplaza Hall in 78', "Tokyo Tapes" has a very well recorded and intimate sound qaulity to it. Everything is preformed with passion, and alot of these track ARE superior to the studio counterparts. Check out the amazing version of "WE'LL BURN THE SKY" with the extended soloing, "TOP OF THE BILL" where Herman does a drum solo for the fans, and Roth on "FLY TO THE RAINBOW". Klause's singing and audience banter in Japanese with thick german accent (KOJO NO TSUKI) is quite entertaining. "POLAR NIGHTS", on the original wax version, is missing though, but you get a nice rarity called "ALL NIGHT LONG"...coooooool. Great find and buy.

Veeeeel Burn Zee Sky! February 8, 2008
