You have to give this album a chance. Its not like Empire that has the catchy songs that immediatly grab you like Jet City Woman,Empire,Silent Lucidity,etc.....When I first bought this album I listened to it once and didnt take to it.A few years later I revisited it and is now my 2nd favorite Queensryche album behind you KnoW what.

There are no fillers on here its just a solid album all the way through.Bridge,Dis-con-ected,Lady Jane... Good stuff.I thought Promised Land was the weakest song on the album, its not a bad song, but if I skip a song its the only one I skip.

This is the last great thing Queensryche has done. This band absolutly blows now big time. Its a shame that they have to keep playing Operation Mindcrime to draw a crowd. October 4, 2008

Just a quick review.

I don't believe this album is as strong as Mindcrime 1, Empire or even The Warning - BUT - I love it anyway!!!

The title track is one of my 10 favourite song EVER. The vocal is phenomenal, menacing genius! Geoff Tate is the greatest of all time. The best songs on this album are brilliant, there are just a couple of self indulgent De Garmo fillers on it. Sorry Chris, you're not in Pink Floyd, please figure this out!!! May 29, 2008

Both the songs on this CD and the tour they played to support it are the best thing since OMC, maybe even better. There is NOTHING lacking in the quality of this collaboration, even the artwork on the cover is impressive. February 15, 2008

I find this album to probably be the band's most underrated. It came out to mixed reviews from fans, but I have always really liked it and consider it to be Queensryche's last great album. For many people this album was simply too mellow. The more metal oriented fan was probably disappointed as there are only a couple of heavy rockers on this one. Instead Queensryche introduces piano into the mix on several songs and generally tones things down from previous efforts. Some find it boring while others find it an example of the band broadening their range. Being a progressive rock fan I find a lot of prog elements finding their way onto this album and to my ears it is a welcome direction. Highlights include "I Am I", "Bridge", "Promised Land", "Disconnected", "Lady Jane", and "One More Time". The last track on the album features just vocalist Geoff Tate and a piano for the emotional "Someone Else". It is a masterful vocal performance from Tate (one of the best in the business in my opinion) and remains one of my all time favorite Queensryche tracks. Mileage will vary on this album, I personally love it, but I know people who consider it one of the band's weakest, so it probably just depends on what you like. February 6, 2008

rating: 5 QuoteAmazing. Not very commercial, but way stronger than 'Empire'Quote
This album is truly brilliant. I still can't understand why so many people put 'Empire' ahead of this album, as 'Promised Land' surpasses anything by Queensryche except for 'Mindcrime'. The songs are amazingly-well written, everything comes together in every song. I can't do a list of strong points, because every track is really really good. 'I Am I' sounds very different from anything in the past and gradually "fades" into 'Damaged', one of the best songs they have ever written. 'One More Time' and 'Lady Jane' sound like they were supposed to be included in the 'Mindcrime' album. The song 'Promised Land' is a trippy 8-minute epic that will make you want to listen to it again and again.
A true masterpiece. August 12, 2007
