About Poison the Well - You Come Before You

With the eagerly awaited 'You Come Before You', Velvet Hammer/Atlantic recording group Poison The Well instantly establish themselves as one of the world's most aggressive & ambitious bands. Produced by Eskil Lovstrom & Pelle Henricsson (Refused, Hell Is For Heroes), the 12-track collection - the band's label debut & third full-length release overall - sees the Florida-based quintet continuing to refine their progressive blend of metallic hardcore rock 'n' roll, blending furious riffs & speed rhythms with distinctively expressive melodic songwriting. 2003. i first heard of ptw when i was a sophmore in hs (2000) i think, and loved the music. i hadnt heard much of them since till this album, i happened upon it at a friends house and decided to pop it in, immediately i realized i stumbled onto on of the best metal albums i've ever heard. they managed to make an amazingly unique album that stands out from anything i've ever heard. if music is emotion, this band just defined what that means. not much like their other work but dont be worried, to say its not like their earlier stuff and so not as good is nothing short of blasphemy. if your looking for an album with power, melody, emotion, and one of the most seamless transitions from song to song than look no further November 16, 2007

"You Come Before You" has remained PTW's best cd to date.

The vocals are unlike those of any other band - ranging from growls to screams to clean. The vocals are innovative in that Jeff will start a scream and fade into passionate clean vocals or vise-versa. Jeff's vocals really set YCBY apart from any other band - I can't say enough about how talented he is.

The guitar work, while not amazing, is good. I wouldn't have it any other way for the cd though - the music flows perfectly throughout the cd. The drums on this cd, as with any other PTW cd, are great as well.

"The Realist" is the best song on the cd; it is simply amazing. "Pleasant Bullet" is also another one of the cd's highlights.

Check this cd out; you won't be disappointed.

I just got destroyed in Runescape because I was writing this review, but if 10 people buy this cd because of it, my being owned won't be in vain.

every band needs to grow from their previous albums. you come before you is there. more melodic than opposite, more mature.

if you're looking for ptw to sound like opposite of december, you may be disappointed. if youre looking for ptw to give you the best they got, you won't be disappointed. a wonderful album. October 7, 2007

If you are a fan of The opposite of December, or Tear from the red, do not waste your time on this album. It is not even close to the same band! May 19, 2007

You Come Before You by Poison the Well is a good cd. Compared to the crap that is tear from the red, this is a major improvement. Sure, the band doesn't sound the same, but if you are a ptw fan you should own this album. This album is sort of experimental. The recording quality is very good and there are some standout songs, like Apathy Is A Cold Body and Crystal Lake. The former is a melodic, sort of relaxed song, while the latter is one of the heaviest songs the band has written. I really did not like Tear From the Red. I only listen to two songs on the cd, and there was loads of filler and monotony throughout the album. Poison the Well has never been a truly amazing or great hardcore band, but this experimentation could be a sign of better things to come. July 28, 2006
