You don't know about boogie, about Canned Heat and about this period if you don't know this album. The 40 minutes Refried Boogie is the ultimate jam session I know of. Parthenogenesis shows that Canned Heat can also do something else than this nonstop boogie, Going up the country will stay as a classic tune, other tunes are good standard Canned Heat. I enjoy the booklet with a good complete presentation written in 2003, saying that this album is a "extreme double LP": I agree. Now it's time to boogie ! December 7, 2007

I agree with the rest of you: I believe "Sandy's Blues" is the best recording of a blues song in the history of the universe. That's the main reason I wanted to upgrade from my old vinyl that I got as a kid, which is full of pops and crackles. However, the price of this CD is outrageously high, so I just bought a vinyl album on eBay that supposedly is in excellent condition. I hope it really is; otherwise I'll have to spring for the price of this CD. By the way, that new "Very Best of Canned Heat" has outstanding sound quality, but unfortunately it doesn't have "Sandy's Blues." August 10, 2007

If you are a Canned Heat fan and have listened to Fried Hockey Boogie and wished that it lasted longer than 11 minutes then this is the CD for you. With Refried Boogie (parts 1 & 2) recorded at Los Angeles' famed Kaleidoscope club you have over 40 minutes of wonderful live Boogie music!

The first CD contains songs recorded in the studio, with my personal favorite being the Al Wilson song My Mistake..... mainly because this was the first time I had heard this song. All of the music is good and with the remastering this is a must have CD if you're a Heat fan. April 26, 2007

Avid Canned Heat fan for many years, though not a contemporary. Had the good fortune to see the rump band touring with Mandel on lead in 1992 when they came through Eugene and Henry's band opened for them before joining for jam late into the night. Drumstick signed by Henry, Fito, Larry, and Harvey.

Obviously this album is their magnum opus, towering over many other fine albums, including the under-appreciated Hallalulah. The problem is that like other BGO selections the sound quality while decent is not great, particularly on Going 'Up the Country'. The song is maybe the fifth best on this album, so it is not a crippling loss but being as how this is one of the top 10 albums by any band ever, the quality should match. Nice to get the full boogie, though; an improvement over the earlier CD releases. February 14, 2007
