I've only been listening to Country music for a few years so my background isn't extensive. To build up my library I look up an artist at Wikipedia then review their discography here at Amazon. I'm looking for their seminal album. What really marks an important album for them or the times. The masterpiece.
Well, I wasn't a big Waylon fan before this album. But man I can't stop listening to it. Masterpiece is an understatement!
So I guess my one warning would be to be prepared for people around you yelling at you to stop listening to this album over and over. December 31, 2007

| Waylon At His Best |
"Lonesome, On'ry, and Mean" was the album on which Waylon decisively broke away from the "Nashville sound" and started to define what "outlaw" music was about. Waylon was moving into uncharted territory, and a sound which I can only describe as the sound of raw freedom echoes from the Telecaster snarl of the first track.
This album includes songs written by Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Mickey Newbury, and Kris Krisfofferson, and some of the musicians include Billy Ray Reynolds and Randy Scruggs on guitars, Charlie McCoy on harmonica, Ralph Mooney on steel, and Richie Albright on drums. January 18, 2004
