Here is another masterpiece by Steve Lacy. Like most of his concerts, 99% of his records are masterpieces. This one is trancendant. One of the best I own (when you start with Lacy, you find out that what he did is out of this world, authentic, genuine, true, clever, his music is life.)
The first notes of The Holy La (a trio with Lacy on soprano, Jean Jacques Avenel on bass and John Boestch on drums) are authoritative(Shuffle Boil), and the trio demonstrates their affinity for off-kilter rhythms and infallible swing. The compositions (The Wane, the wonderful and obsessive Flakes) are transfigured, revisited. Lacy plays in a relaxed fashion as the music sways. "The individual notes on Flakes fall like dry snow caught in the gentle throws of a breeze" a reviewer once said about this disc. It's true. One has to listen to this version that you can also find on "The Rent" album (still in trio). This music will never leave you (listen carefully to The Wane, how Lacy's music transports you, fulfill you, caresses you, etc...)

Highly Recommanded.
