About INXS - Live Baby Live
INXS fans can rejoice over the release of this buoyant concert film, shot during an ecstatic performance before 72,000 hopping fans in London's Wembley Stadium on July 13, 1991. The Australian band's vocalist, the late Michael Hutchence, is at his feral-romantic best, stalking and swiveling his way through an energized set of welterweight pop. The show starts with a big, boomy "Guns in the Sky," takes a turn toward unexpected soulfulness with "New Sensation," and spreads the wealth with a sharp set of ballads and rockers. Hutchence has fun with a naughty "Know the Difference," plays around with a Jagger-esque take on confessional soul in "The Loved One," and milks "Never Tear Us Apart" for all it's worth. The band sounds more muscular than they did in the studio, hard-charging and rough on "Suicide Blonde," drunk on a jazzy guitar hook in "Need You Tonight," and completely danceable on "Bitter Tears." --Tom Keogh Amazon.com

This is it, every collection must have "Live Baby Live". Fantastic audio and the visions is as good as it gets, my only complaint is that I didn't get it sooner!

I really wanted to like this, but there is trouble when I find myself getting up from the chair to do household chores when a band is performing. There is no question of Michael Hutchence's rock charisma and value as the band's voice and frontman. No question either of the band's ability to write and perform catchy rock tunes. Somebody forgot they were FILMING this, and that our eyes like to see some COLOR and some VISUAL INTEREST. Maybe it's what I call the "Wembley Syndrome" - for some reason, I've never liked any performance that has been filmed at Wembley Stadium. To me, it seems dank and tomblike, that's how it shows on film. It doesn't help that there is constant smoke in the air which sometimes occludes a good view of the performers. The stage designer is held at fault for a bland and colorless setting for the performance. The band is at fault for wearing mostly black and white, the exception being two red shirts until a minor costume change for the encore. The band is also at fault for ending the main set with a wimper instead of a frenzy, fortunately they end the encore with The Devil Inside. Visually, just not interesting. The musical performance is fine - buy the CD instead.
July 25, 2008If you are an INXS fan, you gotta have this amazing material live from Wembley Stadium. Helicopters, cranes and of course an AMAZING performance of INXS make this DVD one of the best I've ever seen.

January 24, 2008Drags on a little bit towards the end, but such a great show.
April 29, 2007This concert recorded live during the summer of 1991 at London's Wembley stadium showcases Australian rockers INXS as they end their world tour in support of their X album. The fans are more than motivated as they jump and move with each song, and the band includes every hit within the set list. Michael Hutchence sings passionately with the dynamic stage energy he made famous. Though Hutchence is sadly no longer alive and while INXS never matched the level of success they once had after this time had passed, their memory as a band with a keen pop sensibility fashioned by a rock style will never be erased.
