They could have varied the production and put a couple more songs. THis album is different from most drug gangster rap.
May 3, 2008why do some people like the clipse so much? granted, they usually get laced with some of the darkest-grimiest Neptunes production, but their rhymes are so average and the subject matter so derivative (which can be said about most of rap now anyway).
for you all out there who want to hear some dope street rhymes about slanging that white, look no further than Ghostface's Fishscale which just blew my mind when I first heard it. That IS a pure CLASSIC.
January 21, 2008This album has been called a classic since it was being leaked weeks before the official release in Oct. '06. I am one of the biggest Clipse fans and supporters. I have believed for a while now that Pusha T and Malice are two of the best MCs ever to hold a mic. In fact, my top 5 MCs of all time list goes: Biggie, 2Pac, Eminem, Clipse, Big Daddy Kane. That is no bull**** either. Clipse are amazing lyricist even though their material focuses on the drug game. Listen, you can take this album and give it to your Priest and he'd bop his head and laugh in amazment by some of the lines these two brothers spit. It's absolute Hip-Hop in its purest form. The flow of these guys remind me so much of Biggie its crazy. And they don't bite Biggie's or anyone else's flow, but the metaphors and rhyme schemes is what is missing in Hip-Hop today. These two capture it to perfection. And the beats are as creative as can be. The Neptunes stripped down their production to solid, one of a kind production. At first, the material feels a little far left, even to me, but man, after really listening to it I have not stopped playing it. It is my favorite album even today (12/15/07). No album has even come close to capturing what these boys from Virginia bring to the table. This album is a must buy classic. Just read the reviews! It might not have sold major units, but so in a way it's the best kept secret in hip-hop. However, the album does hold the title for the most downloaded on the internet in '06. That's official too!
It's impossible to name the "top" songs on this album, but here's a couple to check out if you want to listen before you buy
"Nightmares" f/Pharrell and Bilal
"Trill"
"Momma, I'm So Sorry"
"Hell New World" f/Pharrell
"Keys Open Doors"
"We Got It For Cheap"
December 16, 2007 | | Now I see why I waited so long to listen to this 2.5 stars | |
One of my guys suggested this album to me because it is a so called "classic" album. I've literally had the album for years and decided to listen to it because I was bored and wanted to hear some different music. Definitely differing from the majority I can not give this album 5 stars. Even though the kats on here can rap they aren't talking about anything worth hearing. There is an abundant amount of unbelievable cocaine talk and the beats are average at best. If these guys dared to step out the box of ignorance they would defintiely catch my attention and my dollar. But since I downloaded this album for free there is no loss to my pocket nor my hard drive because it wil be deleted now that I have listened to the album.
October 6, 2007The best rap album of 2006. Buy the CD and keep Clipse in the rap game.
