The Great John Williams has done a really good work.
Starting from the main Hedwige's Theme, the listener can live an hour of full amazing entertainment. From Middle Age stiled music, to modern clustered chilling choir harmonies, to exciting rythms and romance... This is CD, trust me, is the real Magic! ;-) April 25, 2008
Soundtrack Perfection?
Truth be told, there isn't much room between this and divinity. John Williams delivered a soundtrack that defies possibility (mysterious, emotional, dark, sweeping, epic, funny....)
He keeps some music from the first two, yet incorporates more themes and styles that add much more to the score. "Buckbeak's Flight" is beautiful, a perfect illustration of the scene in the film. "A Window to the Past" is a very good theme, and is incredibly effective when it is layered with the Patronus theme in "Finale."
And the underlying theme for me- the one that appears throughout the score, being played in different styles and by different instruments- is "Double Trouble." I don't know how many times I've found myself whistling or humming it because it's always in my head. Not because it's annoying (like "Its a Small World) but because it's so darn good.
So is it perfect? They say nothing is, so I'll suffice to say that this is about as close as it gets. March 12, 2008
THE best of the Harry Potter scores....
Mr. Williams let loose his wisdom, talent and magic into this score and didn't stop. Every theme and almost every track in this album is just amazing! Even the zany, chaotic " Knight Bus" piece is entertaining to listen to! The best part of this score is the midieval blood in it. The whole score is centered around the midieval-style music, taaking you into the world of Harry Potter. This is definitely a must-have for Harry Potter fans and for anyone else who enjoys a good film score. March 2, 2008
The Best of The Harry Potter Soundtracks (so far...)
Williams starts off with the familiar Hedwig's theme ("Lumos!"), the familiar theme to all the movies. "Aunt Marge's Waltz," though, takes us into unfamiliar territory. The Rossini-esque, darkly whimsical tune-- complete with discordant penultimate chord--conveys immediately that the movie will treading into dark waters soon. And yet we'll have fun getting there. Its the type of song you could not imagine Chris Columbus putting in the first two movies, but with the fresh direction of Alfonso Cuaron , you almost expect it.
"The Knight Bus," a big band free for all, leads into the other darkly whimsical track "Double Trouble" (lyrics by Shakespeare). The rest of the music varies the usual Williams' brilliance from the soaring ("Buckbeak's Theme"), to the urgent ("Quidditch, Third Year"), to the heart-rendering ("The Patronus Light"). Along the way he adds koto drums, the aforementioned big band, and a touch of the Baroque to the proceedings. All in all a great collection from the master and the best of the series.
