About Phutureprimitive - Sub Conscious
Phutureprimitive is the refreshing musical creation of Oregon-based DJ/Producer, Rain. The Phutureprimitive sound is subterranean electronic tribalism, combining elements of organic downtempo, ethnic breaks, and sensual atmospherics. Ethereal vocals soar over dubbed-out basslines, and live percussion unfolds over odd time signatures creating a groove that is influenced by the synthetic textures of psychedelic trance as well as the kinetic grooves of world music. Rain developed a love for electronic music early on, and began to hone his DJ skills in 1992, inspired by the early trance and goa releases of labels like Eye Q, Dragonfly, and T.I.P. The psychedelic textures embedded in the music of this era continue to be an influence on his production and style.
Not content to just spin music, Rain established the Phutureprimitive Sound Labs in 1996, and began to acquire the equipment and skills required to express himself musically. Expanding and enhancing the Phutureprimitive aesthetic, Leroy Espiricueta has joined Rain, bringing his talent as a musician and skills as a percussionist to the Labs. The haunting and sensual vocals of Alyssa Palmer also grace several songs on this album. The sonic primitives are working on music together, and exploring the creative process independently. Something deep and tribal has been growing in the Labs, unseen and unheard, until now. The first full-length experience from Phutureprimitive is ‘Sub Conscious’ – welcome and right at home, at the headquarters of downtempo and ambient dub - Waveform Records. A cinematic journey through Sub Conscious sound. Vibration for the imagination. Turn the lights down low - let your mind and body flow. ‘Sub Conscious’ by Phutureprimitive – another important transmission from Waveform Records. Album Description

This came recommended to me via Amazon after having ordered Younger Brother and Shpongle albums. Listening now for the first time and it's had me loudly exclaiming "YEAH!" and gyrating my body more than once. I've been into dub reggae since the early 1980s and these guys take that whole concept to a whole new level of greatness. Of course, technological advancements come into play but that just gives great artists more options to express themselves. If you've read this far your next move should be BUY WITH ONE-CLICK.

I was very impressed on the first listen of this album. Dark... chilled... and it does not get old. It's an extremely well produced piece of work. I can't wait for another release.
October 15, 2008This C.D. is one amazing journey through incredible music.Short of Crystal Method and Rabbit in the Moon this is the #3 group in ambient/trance with a banging base line. This is a must have.
September 26, 2008I Used to hear tracks from this CD on XM Radio, and from the ones I got to hear I had to have the CD. 'Dark Electronica' would be my description as to what catogory this fits. Love it, only bad thing--> ITS TOO SHORT!!
September 10, 2008I only want to add to the list of reviews that give this disc a high rating - this is one of the best disc in this genre that I own. I also highly recommend checking out sofaspace.ch if you want to hear more great ambient music (commercial free!). Enjoy.
