About Elvis Presley - It Happened at the World's Fair/Fun in Acapulco

Out of print in the U.S.! Digitally remastered installment in the Elvis Double Features series includes the complete soundtracks to a pair of Elvis' '60s fun-filled feature films. The artwork is superior to the deleted domestic titles as it features photos of the original vinyl releases on the cover. This CD contains all the songs from the movies It Happened At The World's Fair and Fun in Acapulco (both originally released in 1963) plus bonus tracks. Elvis' acting may have been a little stiff, but his vocal performances on his soundtrack recordings were always electrifying. 22 tracks including 'They Remind Me Too Much Of You', 'One Broken Heart For Sale' and 'No Room To Rhumba In A Sports Car'. "It Happened At The World's Fair" had plenty of fun songs on it, including "Beyond The Bend", "Take Me To The Fair", "One Broken Heart For Sale", and "Happy Ending". There's even the naughty little "Relax" song and the strong ballad "They Remind Me Too Much Of You".

"Fun In Acapulco" shows the versatility of Elvis with some Spanish thrown in the mix in "Vino, Dinero Y Amor" and "Guadalajara". He scores on the rocker "Bossa Nova Baby", which made it into the Top 10 on the U.S. charts, and some good ballads in "El Toro", "Marguerita" and "You Can't Say No In Acapulco". There's even some fun ones that kind of preview his future dismal soundtrack songs, such as "The Bullfighter Was A Lady" and "No Room To Rhumba In A Sports Car". You can tell he has fun with the last two, but unfortunately it would become a theme to sing corny songs in future soundtracks that were loaded with material like this.

Overall, two strong soundtracks. Both pre-1964 soundtracks, which is basically the cutoff year for Elvis' best soundtracks from top to bottom. After that, they take a downward turn and only a couple songs on each are very solid. June 19, 2007

The Soundtrack for Fun in Acapulco alone goes for 50 bucks from the Elvis web site. The quality is great, and if you're just looking for the music, this package is perfect. Fun in Acapulco is a very underated soundtrack, filled with the sounds of a tropical summer done up Elvis style. May 25, 2007

I ordered this item for a friend. Before giving it to him I wanted to make sure that the quality of the CD was acceptable. So I listened to it. Even though I do not like Elvis Presley the recording was of such quality that I listened to it and copied it to my computer!!!
Here if I am allowed I would like to praise the Amazon service. January 27, 2007

This CD features the soundtracks to two Elvis movies that were released in 1963.

It Happened at the World's Fair is a pretty mediocre soundtrack. Not one of Elvis' best soundtracks, but not one of the worst, either. Some good songs are "Beyond the Bend", "They Remind Me Too Much of You" and "One Broken Heart For Sale". "One Broken Heart For Sale" was the single from the album, and it was the first Elvis single since he signed with RCA Records not to make the Top Ten (it topped out at #11).

Fun in Acapulco is a bit better than It Happened at the World's Fair. The songs have a Latin flavor, since the movie took place in Mexico. Good songs here include "Fun in Acapulco", "Mexico", "Marguerita", "I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here" and the hit single "Bossa Nova Baby" (it reached #8 on the charts). There are also some pretty silly semi-novelty songs, like "The Bullfighter Was a Lady" and "No Room To Rhumba in a Sports Car".

This is an okay Elvis CD, but far from his best. It is really only for Elvis completists, myself included.

Two classic movies with Elvis singing his heart out. My favorites on the movie Worlds Fair are "They Remind Me Too Much Of You" and "I'm Falling In Love Tonight" and the second movie Fun In Acapulco, I liked most of the songs and after listening to them wanted to hit my favorite Mexican restaurant. The songs really put you in the mood. My favorite song off of Acapulco is "Marguerita". Listen to Elvis' deep voice that really delivers chills in this one...forget Bossa Nova Baby as the hit off this movie, we've heard it a million times if your a baby boomer and to me has lost its luster. But this is a great CD all in all and definitely should be part of your collection. You really get your moneys worth with Elvis tunes on this one. January 2, 2002
