About Original Soundtrack, Various Artists - Friday Night Lights

Novelist H. G. Bissinger's story about a high school football team in Texas went to the big screen with Billy Bob Thornton in the lead role. The score and background music was largely composed for the film by indie faves Explosions in the Sky, with a little help from Daniel Lanois, David Torn, and Bad Company. Producer Brian Reitzell has gone against convention in designing musical atmospheres for the film that don't conform either to the martial music generally associated with football or the C&W associated with Texas. Instead, he opted for a more autumnal, introspective sound that serves as a perfect backdrop for the film, but also stands up on its own without benefit of any other audio-visual cues. I bought this cd as a fan of Explosions in the Sky, not a fan of the movie. A lot of the songs on this soundtrack are only chopped up/switched around versions of the band's full length songs from other releases. It doesn't have the same raw energy that the other releases do, and it's very over produced. I wouldn't recommend this to fans of the band, unless you are a die hard fan and absolutely have to own every EITS release. October 11, 2008

For anyone who grew up in Texas, this film should strike a chord. This soundtrack which serves as a calling card for the group, Explosions In The Sky" captures the highs and lows and the ghostly whispers West Texas. My only gripe is that The Stooges' "I wanna be your dog" ZZ tops "Just Got paid" along with "New Noise" by Refused were left off, perhaps for fear of unbalancing this great soundtrack. At any rate this soundtrack should have a place in your collection. March 11, 2008

I absolutely love the movie and the song Sonho Dourado at the end of the movie always touches me in special ways. The movie, the music, and the emotional story of these young men should be seen by young and old. The music beautifully helped to weave the story of these young men.

Great MUSIC, GREAT MOVIE, GREAT STORY!

I've been listening to Explosions in the Sky for quite some time now--ever since the beginning of this year.. and this was before i watched Friday Night Lights. the fact that they don't use any vocals whatsoever makes me love them even more--that their pieces leave it all up to you to feel and visualize whatever you want. My boyfriend just mailed me the first season of F.N.L. and i just thought the pilot was really mindblowing. (partially b/c of the intensity in the football game, mostly b/c of E.I.T.S.) i'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the episodes!! (if i have time).

P.S. to all E.I.T.S. fans--they are coming back to the east side (NYC) on March 2008 September 25, 2007

If you want the great sounds you hear in the movie which gives it that emotion to go along with the ride this is the right disc. Whoever is talking about the Motley Crue and Poison songs can easily get that junk off the internet. I play it for my artists while they work all the time. Great disc. April 8, 2006
