It's like the Sgt.Pepper of progresive rock. An authentic iconoclastic and lawbreaker revolution. An icon for the nonconformist university students then. A new way of making music that lasts and survive until now all through the different ages and band lines up, always with Robert Fripp at the front. Later albums like Island, Red o Thrak can minimize its final score but it passes the passage of time. A great classic.
YOU STILL GET A SHOCK WHEN YOU BUMP INTO THAT COVER IN THE RECORD STORE OR THE PC SCREEN!

August 19, 2008I am fortunate enough to own both the original LP and the remastered CD. I love them both. This music is not for one who simply wants to be entertained. One must mentally interact with it.While all the musicians are exemplary, Bill Bruford's brilliant percussion is the glue that holds these compositions together. At first glance, it falls into the genre of progressive rock...only because when it was produced, the term fusion was not used to describe music. There is a solid rock performance, no doubt; but it is far more complex with underpinnings of jazz and classical...21st century schizoid man is a very "tight" yet meandering composition, with a most brilliant variations in timing. I talk to the wind is light and ethereal...you can really "feel" the wind. Moonchild vividly describes the presence and movement of a little being experiencing her world. The Court of the Crimson King, majestic...with an interesting little interlude where you can vividly imagine This mighty king beholding little puppets doing a jaunty little dance in the court. You must really listen to appreciate what a brilliant set of compositions this album holds. If you do not give it your full attention, you will miss a unique musical experience. I would love to see a ballet choreographed to this album.
June 13, 2008After hearing some mp3 formatted recordings of songs off of this album, as well as "Red", and "In the Wake of Poseidon", I purchased this album. I fell in love with their clouded, mellow, nostalgic sound, accented by flutes and other high-pitched instruments; the song that really caught me was Moonchild, often criticized for being too long or unstructured a track. Admittedly, the song is pretty long, but the fact remains, this is art/prog rock. Strict structural boundaries are exactly what an artist in the field would try to challenge, at least to some degree. I am quite satisfied with this album. If you have any doubts, at least listen to samples of the aforementioned albums. I highly doubt you won't love at least one song.
May 31, 2008I hadn't heard it in a very long time. It's not played often on the air, but I caught a little bit of it watching "Children of Men". It's been put away in my collection and will be brought out occasionally. It brought some great memories flooding back how ever vague they may still be.
May 15, 2008I love this CD. It takes me back to the days when I listened to it over and over when in college. The band was so unique in terms of the lyrics, harmonic progressions, instrumentation, and in the ways they used the instruments. The drummer was more of a percussionist. I love it!!!
