About Kem - Album II
Kem plays his soul-and-jazz-juiced R&B like a man who has lived through more than most of us, and indeed he has: As fans who have followed the back story since his 2003 debut, Kemistry, know, he's an artist who was once reduced to sleeping on Detroit park benches while battling addiction. With the release of Album II, though, the sad stories need circulate no longer—all that's required to get swept up, off, and away by these tracks is a taste for solid R&B minus the hip-hop sideshow. Coaxing vocal cords more pliable than the face of Jim Carey into unexpected directions, the Chaka Khan sound-alike—who also occasionally ventures into George Benson territory—showers tenderness over each of these songs, sauntering into some notes with suave sophistication and sneaking up on others. Though "I Can't Stop Lovin' You" is the song throwing sparks amongst the quiet storm crowd, check his stretchy tenor on "Into You" and "I'm in Love," both so deeply felt they'll send the lovelorn swooning. --Tammy La Gorce Amazon.com

Average user review:| Good, but not brilliant |
Perhaps im being a bit pickey, but as Id rate this as a good album, I dont think its quite as satisfying as say one of Maxwells from begining to end. Saying that I havent listened to this album that much so it may grow on me some more...
The drummer, Ron Otis previous work I havent loved but here he really gets a nice groove and plays v tastefully, so my estimation of him has gone up!
Overall, if you like Al Jerreau, Maxwell ect... then definatly add this to your collection. April 21, 2008

| Talented KEM!! |
Talented Kem has come a long way from sleeping on Detroit park benches while battling a drug addiction (that's a hell of story), now writes, arranges & produces his own songs he sings with his soulful, jazzy smooth, Al Jarreau sounding voice. Some of his smooth sounding songs are so romantic & sexy, perfect for relaxing with the one you love with a glass of wine on a quite evening watching the sunset or while making love on a quite rainy day (auhh hmmm), like my favorites on this CD `HEAVEN' (my absolute favorite on this CD), `SET YOU FREE' (I totally love this song), `FIND YOUR WAY (BACK IN MY LIFE)', `I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU' and `YOU MIGHT WIN'. One person wrote his "music is so hypnotic" and I must agree. The whole CD is GREAT, I just love it!! I've played this CD non-stop, hope to see another CD from KEM soon; I've become a fan of his.
