This is a great CD for people who want to remember the top notch quality entertainers who graced the Vegas strip with its hotels and casinos in the 1950's and 1960's. The sound is excellent and the song set is very well laid out.

The CD starts off with a short track of what sounds like a gambling table with a "new roller" present--just enough of an appetizer to whet your whistle. Then comes the best set of songs you ever heard by the best singers you could ever have asked for on the Vegas strip!

The CD song set starts off with an awesome "This Could Be The Start Of Something Big" sung by Peggy Lee. This is also a previously unreleased recording--a nice plus! Dean Martin is great in the next track, "Ain't That A Kick In The Head." This is a song Dino performed very often and here, as usual, it is very well done.

If you look carefully, you'll notice that there is also a theme running through this CD about luck and gambling. You get Judy Garland's "Lucky Day," Peggy Lee's "Big Spender," and Sammy Davis, Jr's "Luck Be A Lady," to name a few.

People who remember these times, as well as Judy Garland fans, will also be thrilled with the previously unreleased rendition Judy does of "Lucky Day." Judy's voice is positively electric and she belts out the number effortlessly. Another particularly strong performance is from Sammy Davis, Jr. when he sings "Luck Be A Lady." Very nicely done! I also enjoyed Wayne Newton's classic "Danke Schoën." The CD closes on an upbeat note with Nancy Wilson singing "The Best Is Yet To Come." I sure would hope so! SMILES

The liner notes include a great picture of a gambling table inside a casino in the 1960's or so and there is an essay by James Ritz about the songs with the performers in general terms.

My only disappointment was that these recordings were made in a studio. I thought that they would be recordings from nightclub appearances. I guess that's just my own personal gripe.

I highly recommend this CD for fans of this era, jazz vocals, classic pop vocals and possibly even the Rat Pack. Get this CD; unplug the phone and TURN UP THE VOLUME! Like a fine wine, this music is to be enjoyed and savored just as if you were standing in the best hotel on the strip with a huge stack of chips in your hand!

This is one of the best collections of music that I own. I am impressed with the quality and consistancy of the music. These are songs that I have on various cds that now I own on one disk. One special surprise was Judy Garland's "Luck Day". I've never heard it. Buy this album. You won't be dissapointed!!! January 23, 2006
