Chuck Berry made rock and roll fun and entertaining. He pioneered the concept of guitar rock. He influcenced alot of the big stars now, for example his duck walk. There is one very famous guitarist that has made that one of his sigature moves.

It thrills my heart knowing that Chuck Berry is still rocking and roll at 80 years old!!!!

If you like good, old-fashioned rock & roll, this album is for you. It's not one of those boxed sets that contains lots of stuff you can barely listen to and even more stuff to read that you never will. It's just 2 disks with 50 tracks that you can listen to over and over. At about $.25 per track, it's too good to pass up. The audio quality is decent, considering how old the original recordings are. If you don't know Chuck Berry, get to know him. And, if you do know Chuck Berry, get to know this album. July 9, 2008

I was born in 1971, so by the time I knew who Chuck Berry was he was either a novelty act or was long forgotten. How sad that the true king of rock n roll is not worshipped and admired like the false king Elvis. Anyway, I was already familiar with many of Chuck Berry's most famous songs. I still have a cassette copy of "The Great 28" from back in the 80s, but it was time for a serious upgrade.

With Gold you get 50 (that's right 50) songs on two CDs. Many of these songs I had never heard. I have missed a lot of great music over the years, but I am making up for it now. This is a great batch of tunes to listen to when on a long road trip, delivering pizzas all night, or just hanging out.

I'm a guitar player as well and I admire Chuck's style. Johny B Goode is a song I find espescially difficlt to play. Sure I can wing it, but to play it correctly note for note, it could challange even the fastest shredder.

Now granted guitar-wise, songs like 'School Days' and 'No particular place to go' are almost the exact same song, but Chuck is more than just a great guitar player. He is a poet who writes clever, funny, and imaginative lyrics. Songs like No Money Down and Jo Jo Gunne show just how great of a writer he is.

The raunchy and hysterical live version of Reelin and Rockin is almost worth the price of admission by itself. That must have been a great show to see.

So for all of you youngsters who listen to the crap and so called 'Rock n Roll' that is mass produced today, do yourself a favor. Start going back in time and checking older artists. If Chuck Berry can't get your hands clapping and your toes tapping, you are in a coma. November 15, 2007

Every song on this CD is a winner. Unfortunately, the sound quality leaves something to be desired. Not all of the songs have a "broken speaker" sound to them in places (usually the louder notes), but enough do to make it irritating to listen to this set. Buy the 3 disc Chess box set instead. I checked it out of the local libary and listened to the same songs that sounded terrible on this "Gold" edition and they sounded fine on the Chess box set edition. May 13, 2007

I agree with most of the other reviewers, for song selection this is great for a single compilation. However, I was not very impressed with the sound quality on some songs, especially the beginning of Sweet Little Rock & Roller, which sounds distorted as though the master tape was damaged. Also on some other songs (ex: Reelin' and Rockin') the sound is distorted on the low end, as though the levels are too high in the mix. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm actually wondering whether the copy I purchased is legitimate. I do not own previous versions so I cannot say whether this version is actually an improvement. January 11, 2007
