About Brigitte Bardot - The Best of Bardot

A 20-track compilation featuring the highlights of Brigitte Bardot's 1963-1970 recordings.

Bardot invested her frivolous songs with a contagious sense of playful fun and a refusal to take the music or herself too seriously. Her breathy delivery on many of the tunes was meant to highlight her iconic sex kitten persona.

The guileless joy she projects is reminiscent of some of the finest '60s French pop singers. This is one fun and sexy lounge compilation. Album Description

If you like Brigitte, France Gall, Serge Gainsbourg or 60's ye-ye then you need to buy this. There are some really amazing songs on here (like all the Serge Gainsbourg one's). Even if you have the DVD, you need to get this since some of Brigitte's best songs from the 60's are on this that aren't on the DVD. Even though Brigitte is no France Gall when it comes to her vocal skills, she has a real beautiful voice that's amazingly complimented by Serge's brilliant arrangements!!! January 11, 2008

Come on people, lighten up! This is fun, upbeat, sexy, breathy vocals from the all time sexiest woman! It's not Maria Callas! This is a time capsule of the coolest sounds from the sixties and very enjoyable. Not mean't to be trashed by grinches. It is a blast, and so cool, every track! Buy it if you dig the 60's! At times I can't really comprehend Brigitte Bardot's fame- she's sexy, yes, and a fairly okay actress, but as a singer, she's just alright. Her music is not essential, but if you are into 1960's French music it's not all that bad. There are some great songs on this disc, not really worth buying the whole album, but still a fun listen. Brigitte was better known as an actress and it would be fair to say that she was not a great singer - but she was good enough to make lightweight pop that is worth an occasional listen.

On this album, there are three duets with Serge Gainsbourg. Je t'aime moi non plus was intended for release as a single but it remained in the vaults - I think Brigitte decided she didn't want it released. In any case, Serge then recorded it with Jane Birkin. That version was released as a singe but was quickly banned in France. The singles were shipped across to the UK, where it was banned by the BBC but allowed to go on sale. It sold well, eventually reaching number one on the UK charts - a rare achievement for a record sung in a foreign language. The other duets between Serge and Brigitte are Comic strip and an original song about Bonnie and Clyde. Among the solo recordings, the highlights are L' Appareil a sous, La Madrague and Harley Davidson.

Brigitte's music is not essential, even if you are building a collection of French pop music, but it is worth an occasional listen, especially for Je t'aime moi non plus. July 30, 2005
