About Kanye West - Late Registration

For haters eager to see Kanye hit a sophomore slump--no such luck. Late Registration can't replicate the novelty of last year's College Dropout, but otherwise, this is an impressively more mature and labored-over album. Lyrically, Kanye's only improved a notch but musically, the album sounds incredible, especially with co-producer Jon Brion helping polish the songs to perfection. Tracks like "Heard 'Em Say" (featuring Maroon 5's Adam Levine) and "Hey Mama," are richly textured in their soulfulness while the flint-edge of "Crack Music" and "Gone" (feat. Cam'ron) will appeal to the street-oriented. There's a few duds on here--the sickly-sweet, syrupy "Bring Me Down" (feat. Brandy) being one of the worst offenders--but when the album's good, it's very, very good. In short, Kanye's detractors may not be swayed in their resistance to his charms but not only will his past supporters be rewarded but Late Registration has enough appeal to earn new crowds of fans. --Oliver Wang Amazon.com

This is a solid album with solid beats. Lots of colab on this. Not as good as his first or his third album, but still enjoyable. Too many versions of "Diamonds". I wish his version of "Hey Mama" from the grammies was on this. The standard version doesn't convey the immotion.

The only person that is stupid enough to like Kanye West's poor excuse for music or existance for that matter is Kanye West. April 30, 2008

it's not college dropout...

best two songs for me are We Major and Late

Kanye west is very clever and has a lot of energy and personality. it's hard not to like him.

the beats are nice but i would suggest getting Late Orchestration instead of Late Registration. i didn't get a hip hop vibe from this cd but felt more like it would sound better live with instrumentaion...

definitely a genre-less [new word?] cd. has a little bit of everything. January 30, 2008

I love this album. It's real. Real Kanye.

Some of the material is a tad darker than what was touched on in The College Dropout (2004) The College Dropout:

Bring Me Down (Haters) Roses (Grandma with AIDS) and Heard 'Em Say (Racism).

A lot of these tracks are very, VERY fun and catchy also:

Heard 'Em Say, Gold Digger, Drive Slow, Celebration and We Major.

Kanye's songwriting skills improved a bit too. I think this is the pinnacle of his oh-so-short career (thus far, anyway). I guess the beats on his new album, Graduation (2007) Graduation are better overall, but it's not as solid, and lacks the depth that is showed here.

Love the Hell out cha, Kanye "Omari" West! :P And so what his head is a bit bigger than others; Surely, it'd happen to half of us if we were in the shady business that he's in.

A decent "Pop" Rap album. 4 stars.
